As I'm typing this, Hurrican Gustav is currently sitting onver Louisiana, however aa quick run over to the NHC website shows 5 more possible major storms over the North Atlantic.
1 - Hurricane Hannah, will likely make a landfall near the Georgi / S. Carlolina border at the end of the week.
2 - a small storm system in the south carribean has the potential to become a tropical storm.
3 - a storm in the mid-atlantic, will likely dissipate a it moves northward into cooler water.
4 - Tropical Depression 9, is exepcted to be a Hurricane by the end of the week near the Bahamas.
5 - A large storm off the African coast has 'high possibitly for tropical storm development'.

so even after Gustav has come and gone their is still alot of nasty weather left to head they way of vulnerable areas.
I'v been keeping an eye on this site ever since the 2005 hurricane season (Katrina year) and I have never seen 6 major storms in the Atlantic at once. 2 are currently Hurricanes, 2 will likely become hurricanes and 2 will likely be tropical storms.
