Forums - Sony - Sony's Other Announcement

Apparently everyone missed Sony's other big announcement that will be made at E3 about the PS3: downloadable movie service. It's coming. Finally Sony is going to allow this like the 360 does, even though Sony is an actual movie company and should have moved a little quicker but no big deal.

Cool, I wonder if that DVR type adapter will ever come out. That'd be nice, lol. Actually, doesn't the Korean PS3 have something like this? Or it's like IPTV or something like that?

I really like option to download and rent movies online like that. The only thing that bothers me about the 360 movie store is that it deletes after 24 after pressing play. I really wish they would either extend that time because sometimes I just can't sit and watch a movie in a day due to time or other times I might want to watch a movie more than once.

Personally I don't download movieson a console anyway because it's cheaper to get movies from Netflix than download and pay for each movie. But it is a good move for Sony and it's about time.

Sounds great! And sony should have the muscles to win that fight.

The only thing I wonder is if it is going to hurt Blu-ray sales, I guess that war is more important than anything else for Sony.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

Yea, unless they're like 1080p movies, I'd rather go spend $2-3 to rent a movie for a day or two because I'm sure downloading a movie is going to take at least the good portion of a day or night.  TV shows on the other hand, that ought to be interesting.

Yeah, now that I actually have Netflix I don't download anything on the 360 anymore, but before I had it I usually downloaded a movie per week. I just really liked the ability to download the movies and gave me the chance to watch a lot of movies I would probably never make the effort to actually go to Blockbuster and rent.

It will be interesting to see what movies Sony puts on their service, pricing plan, and the length of time you get to keep them (hopefully longer than 24 hours after pressing play, hate that rule).

If it's anything like the 360 the download times aren't bad at all for their HD movies (though they're 720) and you can actually start watching the movies before you finish downloading.

So you're like streaming then, right? Oh well, I guess we'll see soon enough. I think we knew this was coming in a way though because of some of the things they were talking about with Home and such.

So know you're really gonna NEED that $600 80 Gig system. :D
