Forums - Microsoft - Is there a Summer of Arcade compilation disk? If not, they should make one!

Geometry wars 2

Braid

Bionic Commando Rearmed

Galaga Legion

Castle Crashers

They are all awesome and it would be really great to let even more people experience these games. The fact that the awesome creaters of these games will get even more money for their fantastic work is also another big reason why they should do it.

Another possibility would be to give these games away with the Xbox 360 arcade in the box, that would be pretty awesome for anyone buying an Xbox 360 Arcade over the holiday season.

I don't know how well that would work. You'd have three big hands in this besides Microsoft; Namco, Capcom and Activision. Great idea in theory though, and funny enough the total amount of buying these games is exactly $60, which in my mind is a better deal than any single retail game that has come out this gen.

Well, it would also entice people that have neglected online services to check them out, especially if they like the games.

I personally would think that this would be a smart move to do.

Kind of like an 'Arcade Unplugged Vol 2' type thing. Good idea.

They should definately do it, if they've done it before.

The problem with the last disc is it was all published by Microsoft. Most of the Summer of Arcade games aren't. Therefore MS would need to have an ageement with five different publishers to get a disc out.

I think its 3 or 4 since they published Braid. From a profit perspective it would make sense - $60 - $30 for expenses incl Microsoft and $30/5 = $6 each per game. If they sell a cool 100,000 which should be doable thats about $600,000 per game which wouldn't actually be that bad really considering it would be an added bonus to the Live sales.

LOL, yeah right I'm sure that'll happen.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
