Forums - Sony - What is the newest console game the PSP could handle a port of?

   I post this out of genuine speculative curiousity.  I've seen a lot of PS1 games ported to the PSP and its obvious it can handle all of those.  It is nice to get games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Valk profile ported but I'm wondering if some lower spec PS2 games can make the leap.  The ones I'd be most interested in are games like the suikoden series of front mission, RPGs in other words (which seem to have lower requirements then say...porting God of War 2.) 

 

    Do you think it would be possible to port some of the better PS2 games to the PSP?  Or do you think they tech in the PSP is more in line with something that maxes out at above the PS1 but below the PS2?

 

    Even if its PS1 only I can think of at least 30 games from Square alone I would buy if they were ported.  (Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve 1, 2, Front Mission 3, Vagrant Story....the list just goes on and on).

The PSP is in between the PS and PS2 in terms of overall power but the PSP should be able to handle a downgraded port of just about any PS2 game barring a select few.

Look how the GTA's came out for an example.

In fact the PSP has more proccesing power with its 333Mhz processor against the PS2 290Mhz.The graphic chip is somewhat more modern.The machine has less memory ,though ,and the UMD is 1.8 GB (or 3.6Gb double layer) against the DVD 4.5-9Gb.

But ,as the graphics are displayed in a smaller screen ,the texture weight doesnt have to be so strong.

As we have seen with games as Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core ,God of War and now Kingdom Hearts (that looks arguably as good if not better that the PS2 iterations ) we can concede the PSP being equal with the PS2.

As for wich games console is the more modern the PSP can compete with ...its easy ,the PS2 and more or less the Wii.

John Carmack claims that the iPhone is as powerful as the PS2 and Sony fans freak, and yet they claim that the PSP (a device older and less powerful than an iPhone) can match the PS2 ... Nice!

I tend to agree with Viper1, pretty much any game from the PS2 can be ported to the PSP but it is likely that most of them would have noticeable downgrades.
