No one is trying to make this important again, Starcraft, but people (like you), are trying to say that it won't be exclusive in Japan.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think that FFXIII is THAT important. Certainly not to the extent FF's were last generation.

Don't get me wrong, the loss of exclusivity is a mammoth blow to the PS3, especially given the Xbox 360 is cheaper. But I think it will be very difficult to gauge. In Japan I think if Sony paid more than a couple of million dollars they wasted their cash. We have already seen that the continent has a massive aversion to purchasing the Xbox 360, and wouldn't have bought it en masse for FFXIII!!!

The writer and director has no say in that sort of decision.  That would be similar to the project lead at Bungie or EA deciding what platform his project would eventually be on.  Not his decision...

Its not, at least not since E3. Now Versus is the most important thing in the universe.

Maybe it's PS3 exclusive in Japan for time constraint purposes?

Maybe they want it out this year, and making the game available on both platforms at launch might not make it happen, so they stuck with the platform that they already were developing for for Japan.

I'm not saying that they didn't pay, but seeing as the game was in development, it makes it kind of hard to believe that they had an agreement for exclusivity, and SE decided to break that, and make Sony pay.

I do kind of agree with some of what you're saying. Although FFXII was a big seller last gen, it didn't do a damn thing to the PS2's sales. But I suppose thats because it was already so widley sold.

and ya, Sony would be wasting their money to pay off Square for just Japan. I think that was Square's desicion.

How can you believe that the article "cleared the air", i.e. - made a conclusive statement, when the game was originally supposed to be exclusive to PS3?  A lot of people seem very trusting of a developer who just stabbed Sony in the back in a fairly open way.  After SE sees the revenue start to roll in from the NA/Europe 360 sales, and decides to release a Japanese version on the 360, are you then going to argue that they will stick by their word regarding FFXIII vs?

Maybe they just don't think its worth the hassle of releasing it in Japan given the lack of XBox users there. No pay off was required in all probability. As was previously pointed out the Japanese will go for the PS3 anyway once it comes out.
