Apperantly they made a deal with MS that if MS settled right then that when they got Sonys money they would give a part of it to MS... Sounds like they had MS fund the lawyers and court costs with a loan from them and paid it back with interest after they got Sony's money...

Which wouldn't have happened if Sony settled before MS did. But hey, those were the times when execs were saying "people would take another job to buy the ps3" so I guess they were confident on their ability to sell a rumble-less machine.
