Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: GearBox developing Halo 4 for the next Xbox?

Gearbox is surely capable and worthy of making a Halo sequel. Brothers In Arms games are some of the most intense FPses ive played, way more challenging than others. So the single player campaign shouldnt be a problem. For the multiplayer, they already have the Bungie model for a foundation, and just have to make some improvements(though its hard to see how it can be improved)

This is a pretty lol-worthy rumor. Gearbox and not Bungie? For next Xbox? Yeah...sounds false to me.

I actually put A LOT of stock in this one.  They have had something big under wraps for a little over a year now that all of their employees are super excited about.  Whenever I bother them about it they love to rub it in my face they can't tell.  :-p

But just thinking about it:

  1. Highly respected FPS developer
  2. Very good at emotion and story telling in FPS genre
  3. Has worked on Halo games before
  4. Another Halo game is already in the Dallas area

It sounds pretty plausible.  Also, even though this is something they've had under wraps for a while I don't think that means they've been in heavy development yet or even had the project green lit.  I bet it's a very small group of people working on it and just waiting for BiA:HH to get completely finished and shipped before they get an entire team on it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's little more than a few blockouts, very placeholder art, and a concept at the moment.

And really, who else would they get to work on this?

  • Some relatively unknown studio?  I doubt it with a game this big.
  • Valve?  Not likely, Valve has their own shit to do and they would want to release the game over Steam.
  • Infinity Ward?  They're too busy working on Call of Duty 6.
  • Epic?  They're too busy working on UE4, Gears 2, Gears 3, and whatever their unannounced game that isn't Halo is.

From what I remember Bungie doesn't want to work on it.

As long as this developer is a good one, which they appear to be from previous posts, it should be a quality game.

Different developers would allow for different strengths to be emphasized.

Didn't Gearbox add the killer online mode on Halo: Combat Evolved. You know, the mode that is still heavily played even today.

I don't think we have anything to worry about when it comes to Halo 4 and these guys making it. (If they are making it).

But... could these guys be streched?

Making Halo4 a launch title for their next system is the right move for MS.

God of War 2 should have been a PS3 launch title.

Agreed and agreed.

Dead on

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Link? They should work on new games but say part of this rumor is true (the next Xbox part) they have quite a long time to develop it so I don't see why they couldn't make a game to be released in a few years and make another Halo game eyars later in time for the next XBox (not necessarily a launch title...but sometime early. Like before the second year is up or something.)

Afraid I don't have that (or the patience to search for it).  I just remember during the whole Bungie leaving MS deal (I think that was when) them saying they simply wanted to move on to something else.

Who knows, Halo could turn into something like Call of Duty where two devs work on it and we would have one every year.

One per year?
Don't know if that is actually something to look forward to...
