Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: GearBox developing Halo 4 for the next Xbox?

http://kotaku.com/5041835/rumor-gearbox-is-developing-halo-4-for-new-xbox

"Let's review: Back in February, Gearbox Software honcho Randy Pitchford put up a job listing for senior artist, adding: "I've started a new project. It's big. It's, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big. I'm Directing it myself. I can't mention it publicly yet. When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one." Before that, Gearbox posted a Master Chief statue wrapped in tissue paper for Halloween -- probably unrelated at the time, but still. According to a rumor in October issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, Gearbox is developing Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox. With Bungie moving out of the picture, that certainly seems possible at least. And besides, it would give Pitchford another costume to work on Freak Your Employees Out Day. Man, that's always a great day."

So xbox720 will be here in 2010.

-UBISOFT BOYCOTT!-

Is this the same Gearbox that made Samba de Amigo?

Errr I hope not, and im being serious here! There are very three studios I would trust with Halo outside of Bungie. They are Epic, Valve, and Infinity Ward. If anyone outside those four develops the next Halo im going to be sorely disapointed.

Tease.

Making Halo4 a launch title for their next system is the right move for MS.

God of War 2 should have been a PS3 launch title.

Not meaning to add fuel to the fire but look at their site...

"Unnanounced title"...could be something big. Also, these guys have 3 FPS games coming out in less than a year.

They made some good games but I'd uch rather have a studio like Monolith do Halo 4.

@Squilliam there is no way Epic should be doing Halo 4. They can't make a good campaign to save their ass.

Infinity ward could make a good game but they'd have to go with a more gritty feel which may not be halo that we know. Valve would make a good story game, and good multiplayer so that may be the best choice. Other than Monolith ofcourse :)

It is very good to hear 720 is coming out at 2010
So will there be possible for the new big game titles for 720?

I've been thinking this for a while.  I have a few friends at Gearbox and they've been super tight lipped about their secret project (jerks :-p) but that never kept me from guessing.

  1. They've worked on a Halo game before
  2. They are a very respected FPS developer and for good reason
  3. Their games are character and story driven, exactly what Halo tries to be
  4. One Halo game is being brought to the Dallas area, why not another?

Yes

I have full faith in them.  While Brothers in Arms isn't my cup of tea, they're still probably among top WWII franchises out there.

I don't think Monolith would be that good to be honest. They can make an awesome single player game but I haven't seen any good multiplayer games out of them, though their single player alumni is pretty impressive reading.

@ Epic, They are good enough to do the multiplayer side as good as the rest of them and I've been playing through Gears of War 1 so I think they can also do a pretty good single player game when the mood strikes them.

Infinity ward is probably a better choice than Epic as they are probably better developers overall and I think they could capture the spirit of Halo both in single player and multiplayer even better than the boys at Epic. I don't understand why you'd say that they'd make it too gritty, I think they're better than that and you should give them more credit.

Valve would work and theres nothing more to say on that.
