Forums - Gaming - Every console has modified there controller!!! Is this a first in gaming?

After listening to a Podcast they brought it up.

Sony - SIXAXIS>>>>Dualshock 3

Nintendo - Wiimote>>>>Wii MotionPlus

Microsoft - Doesnt even have a name so.......GamePad>>>>Gamepad with working D-Pad.

Is this the first time in gaming history that all consoles had to redesign or modify there controllers because they either fucked up or didnt deliver on what they promised?

Sony fucked up with SIXAXIS.

Nintendo didnt fill their promise with the Wiimote

Microsoft fucked up with the D-pad.

All of this I found pretty funny and I dont think its ever happened before. I know consoles have had different controllers but for every company to modify there originals is just funny.

So no one should really bitch about the MotionPlus/SIXAXIS/or.......Gamepad.

btw I know what can go wrong with MotionPlus by the supposed splitting of the Wii market or whatever but dont bring that up here or argue about it.

Mmmm.

What about the Sony first released the PS1 controller than released the analog controller?

well this happens every gen but i dont think all companies have changed the primary controller design in the same gen

Yea but I think that was much later on. And as I said its been done before but for all consoles to have to pretty much redo their controllers in one gen is a first.

But I think by my titles not everyone will get what Im trying to say.

What do you mean "Nintendo didnt fill their promise with the Wiimote"?

Around the Network

Xbox fat controller to Xbox controller S

PS1 original to Dual Shock

Genesis 3 button to 6 button

Happens a lot, but never all the companies in a single generation.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

the wii mote isn't as accurate as they say it was... meaning 1:1 accuracy.

The masses all thought 1:1 to controls when they saw the Wiimote. Granted thats not exactly what they said but its what the masses expected. And they decided to finally bring it because its what they wanted.

Masses includes the casuals and the core gamers.

Could you find me a link where Nintendo stated that the wiimote would be capable of 1:1 motion? Thank you in advance.

I'm still failing to see where Nintendo is at fault in this situation........it seems more that the masses are at fault for getting ahead of themselves.
