Forums - Gaming - A Parent's Worst Fear

This report claims that out of 3 fears parents have concerning what their children are exposed to--porn, drinking, and violent video games--that violent video games is the worst fear.

Too bad the headline is completely misleading (it's called "Parent's Worst Fear" and shows an image of Marcus Fenix from Gears of War).

The survey actually lists 4 fears, not 3, and the 4th, drugs, came out way ahead of the others.  Nice way to distort survery results in order to shape public perception.  I wonder how many people will just read the headline but never watch the report, leaving them with the impression that parents fear violent video games above all other influences on their children.

There's a lot of dumb people out there, a violent videogame should be the least of their concerns.

It's always nice to know that there are some parents with their heads so far up their asses that they are more concerned about videogames than their kid getting pregnant or an STD.

Wow, honestly the media has created this fear and continues to perpetuate it. It makes me sick sometimes.

What irks me even more is the fact that the actual survey reported that parents feared drug use above all else, yet the report ignores that particular element even while showing a graph of the survey results.  One of my pet peaves is when the media takes on the role of shaping public opinion instead of reporting the facts and letting the public decide.

My mum was most worried about me doing drugs. She couldnt give a shit if i played a game involving mutilating people/animals/both

That's exactly it, the media just decides on their own to ignore the drug part of the survey and focus on the videogames. The media really needs to be reporters of facts and not biased and report their opinion or try to push their opinion on others.

That poll was also an internet poll on a site devoted to video game violence (if it's the same one that came out about a week and a half ago)

There's very little scientific about any part of that poll. It's like if I went up to a bunch of basketball players and asked them what their favorite sport was.

I don't get it? What's wrong with porn, drinking and violent video games? Parent should be more worried about drugs, STDs and Word of Warcraft. Those things are the real threats when it comes to the younger generation.

@ bbsin )

if you read the OP you woud know, that parents actually _are_ much more worried about their child doing drugs and that someone just used that poll from the website to make it seem like they were most worried about them playing violent games

How dare they slander the good name of porn.
