Forums - Sony - Should Sony keep the 160gb model of the ps3 permanent?

At this point there are only two models of the ps3. That's the 80gb and the 40gb. Sony recently just announce a release of a 160gb model of the ps3. This could possibly boost sales, especially with holiday season around the corner. I think they should keep the 160gb hardrive so there would be three models of the ps3. After they earn enough money off this new model, they can have price cuts for the two other models. Who else thinks they should keep the 160gb hardrive model permanent?

I thought they were completely getting rid of the multiple SKU model. o.O

What do people do with all that space?

It probably will stay permanent..they'll eventually get rid of the 40 gig, and they'll only have an 80 and a 160. That's my guess. I don't see a point in a 20 or 40 gig PS3 at this point.

i don't know twesterm, i read it is a limited bundle. i just hope they keep all these models. it's bad enough they discontinued the 20gb and 60gb.

they really need to come up with a gameplan so they can find some way to close the gap between the 360. Because right now it seems absolutely impossible.

What do people do with all that space?  Is that a rhetoirical question???  Do you have a PS3?  Hmm..downloadable games, disc-based installs, add-on content, music, videos, downloadable movies and tv shows, movie rentals, videos and demos from the PSN, pictures, saved games, disc/install games (warhawk, LBP, etc.).  Did I miss anything?

EDIT* I did..PlayTV when it comes out.

ok, last I checked the 80gb was replacing the 40gb and the new 160gb was replacing the old bc 80gb.

So, from what I can tell they are sticking to the 2 sku model.

It's 80 GB version and the 160GB is exactly the same as the 80GB aside from extra space and (in Europe) 70 euros in downloadable games / (in US) Bundled game

The 160Gb is limited edition only, as said by Sony, unless they've changed that statement during this day.

As long as they know what they are doing. They need to rack in great sales this holiday season. Especially Black Friday, that the number one day you will see increasing sales.
