You really are in an argumentative mood lately aren't you. Were you homeschooled or something and feel some connection to the kid? Most private tutor places don't offer a high school diploma when you complete your course selection, but the county or state should have a program set up so you can take a test to get a GED. And he should want to go to college, because without it you are stuck with hard work like millwork or construction or flipping burgers or working cashier at a store. And yes I do think it is hard to get into college with a GED, lots of colleges turn kids away because they only admit so many students per year. Who are they going to take, John Doe with a 2.6 GPA or a home school kid with a GED? And yes I was picked on at school, I don't think you could talk to anyone, anywhere that could truthfully tell you otherwise. Guess what, they stopped because I stopped doing stupid shit that led to it, also it helps that I kicked a few of their asses on the football field. ^^

I was not homeschooled and I hope to be a teacher in the next few years.  I don't really feel connected with the kid other than my love for all things Guitar Hero.  Wow, such a great game.

However, I do feel that education of children is the parents job and they usually know best on how to do it.  If the parents would rather the child get a non-government education, that is their right (at least in NC).  Even better, the child agrees with the parents on how his education should proceed.

Also, about Guitar Hero, I feel it is harmless.  The kid is just 16 years old and will have plenty of time to decide what he wants to be when he grows up.

About the GED and college, most community colleges and government universities don't really care much.  I don't private tech colleges would care very much either.  Who knows, maybe he will get a free ride to college because of Guitar Hero or maybe he will never go.  Most people don't have college degrees and there is no need for them as college degrees are not even needed for most jobs.

Maybe the kid has made some bad choices in his life, maybe he will make more bad choices.  Either way, it is great that the kid and his parents are putting so much thought into his future at such a young age.  Even if their choices were bad in our eyes, the government should not have the ability to contol a parenting style as long as it doesn't harm a child.  Also, it is sad that they media put such negative spin on the article.  If we should be made or make fun of anyway, it is the people in the media that put negative spin on this situation.

Quit high school to play Guitar Hero professionally and be homeschooled. This guys social life is fucked for life.
No...his social life is with his parents.

Prof. gamer life's really short ,in South Korea you can be pro. gamer untill 26-28 at most before you gotta quit it.(You can go on ,but will sponsors paid for your training or not?I don't know.)

And a chance to become a successor is really really slim.

I agreed with Aj_habfan ,losing social life in school is not worth it.He can be a prof. gamer ,i won't blame him about that but at least finished school first would be better idea.

It nice that his parents trying to adjust themself and try to support him. There're not much that understand and will do that.

whats his IQ 90 LOL

consoles i own ps12 gba ds gc wii

This guy deserves respect although is kinda dumb to quit school for playing a video game even if it is gh :/

He didn't quit school. The article said the kid is homeschooled. Many actors, athletes, and highly competitive kids choose homeschooling over government schools. I know some of you are from places other than America and homeschooling is outlawed in some places (like Germany) but it is common for talented kids in America. The Guitar Hero part is the interesting and different part.

Most of you people are being completely silly. His parents should be shot because they support their kid's dream by agreeing to help him learn his school work at home so it would be easier for him to concentrate on his dream?

Actor and athletes usually aren't homeschooled. The people I know that have done that are actually still "part of a school". They just don't sit in a classroom anymore but they do the assignements they are given and pass regulated exams.

Homeschooling is usually done by a parent or a tutor and is certainly not common.

OT: it's pathetic...

"Great job, Yahoo. Thanks for posting this on the front page. Every parent of every teen boy (and a few girls) that isn't doing well in school in part because of gaming and unrealistic ideas of what life is about thanks you. Irresponsible idiots"

"Considering our schools-public, private, and parochial- are all a joke, why not? Why stay in school and deal with the brainwashing required by No Child Left Behind and the social facism that is reflective of our corporatized society. School is important to the elite in training the serfs to be good little slaves They are taught to sit down, shut up, don't question authority, and pop the pills their Dr. or shrink is getting their kickback for!!!"
