I think it will increase sales for at least a month...I don't think by much more than 20-30K a week.

It will sell more the day it drops, but it will sell considerably less before the price cut. If consumers' expectations of future price decrease sales will decrease in the short term. If they keep dropping the price, they will not be able to sustain high sales because of the consumer's expectations that the price will continue to fall in the near future.  They already had basically two price cuts in a year, not a good strategy to continue.

I'm talking about the decrease of the 20GB to $299 in July, and also these rumored price cuts.  This amounts to two "price cuts", whether or not they do decrease the prices of the models later this year doesn't matter, the public already perceives this as a "price cut" in the future, thus having more reservations of buying now.

i don't know what the effects would be immediately, but i think it will definitely have a notable holiday boost from last year

 okay, we have a not real price-cut on the one hand and there is a rumored price cut, which might take place in September, on the other hand. So they already had two price cuts this year... Yeah, that makes sense. Especially when you consider that these two "price cuts" cut the price on the same price, $299. Strange that they still sell 60GB-model for $350. The Xbox needs a third price cut to $299, but this time for real.

if it is true then it means that the next price drop after it is going to be giving the 360 away and then after that you get payed for taking them
