Forums - PC - What the hell should i do?

do you know if it's possible to delete windows vista, and then re-install it using the same disk? or do i have to buy a new disk? it's giving me problems. i try to install Java, and it doesn't work. also, when it updates when you shut down the computer, it keeps getting stuck lately.

This all started when i downloaded comodo firewall for it, and it didn't work the first time. so i had to do a system restore, because it didn't work, i couldn't uninstall it because of some error, and my computer had no firewall, so i didn't know what else to do. i managed to do the system restore successfully. but then Java wouldn't work because the system restore had deleted it. i tried to re-install Java, it wouldn't work, and not only that, i had to re-install the drivers, and they seem to be having problems installing (only the DVD burner installed successfully this time).

i seriously  don't know what to do now. and i would like to stick with windows vista, so please don't try to get me to switch. the computer that has vista was built by me 3 days ago. i'm sure that it's not hardware related. also, all the drivers correctly installed the first time, so i know that i have the correct ones. If it matters, i have vista 64.

Thanks for the help.

Huh? What's this paddle doing here?

Oh. My. God. Someone's at Shit's Creek!!

Seriously, dude. You're screwed.

I found that sometimes it seems like vista froze, when really it is doing work in the background. Make sure you don't boot your computer, unless you let it sit for hours on end while installing.

Also, you can install at least a handful of times from the same disc without a problem. I had to install at least 3 times (although I never got windows to register on the first 2 tries). If you do have a problem, I know you can call Microsoft and explain the situation, and they will give you a new code right then, however, You have to be at the install screen and you have to have your old code handy.

I'm kidding. I know nothing about computers. Hope everything works out for you, though.

Yea there are still a lot of software issues with vista, I guess doing a complete format and reinstall vista might help but I would suggest searching on google for other forums for same problems people been having and they might have an answer. I still haven't switch to vista so no help from me :P

how can i do a complete format? do i have to buy something, or what?

No you have the vista disk, put the disk in and restart the computer, then you gotta go into bios once the computer starts and change the boot order so that the cd would load first, then exit out of bios and computer will restart. Then it will say "Press any key to boot from disk" which you press any key and will start the reformatting and reinstalling process and just go step to step.
Uhm I would again suggest searching google for more precise instructions I have limited web power at work so I can't find a good link on how to do this process and more :P
Maybe you got a friend that knows how to?

I did that many times all you have to do is insert the disc into the dvd drive, the reboot your computer when it reboots hit f8, f9, and f10 this will cause you to boot from the dvd then you have to follow the directions and there should be an option to format and do that. Also is this a custom computer or store bought, if it is store bought hit the three f buttons when the companies logo appears
