Forums - Gaming - The Next big flop

Spore wont flop. All they'll need to do is put "from the creator of the sims and the sims 2" for it to sell a couple of mill.

Too human will most likely flop. After that I'd pencil in killzone 2 as the next major flop.

if the OXM review is any indication, the next title which will fall short of expectations (won't be "awesome" but "good") is Star Wars:TFU, but it will sell well regardless

I would say MAG or a slight lean to LBP.. No bashing for LBP please it's just an opinion. It's fun and good an all.. I am thinking it might flop in sales. That's all.

Far Cry 2.

These days FPS games really need to shine. Look at RB6 Vegas 2...

PSN - hanafuda

White Knight Story

I see a lot of fanboys hyping the hell out of this game, saying it's going to move PS3s in Japan, sell over a million, etc. Thing is, Level 5 doesn't have that many wildly successful games ouutside of Dragon Quest and Professor Layton. I'm not sure why this game is supposed to be special.

As much as I like Little Big Planet, it looks like it hasn't been off to a good start on pre-orders. Usually when an anticipated game gets put up for pre-order they get a big boost up front then die down and increase again before the game hits.

Little Big Planet comes out the same week as Fable 2. Little Big Planet's pre-orders already dropped off, but Fable 2 is still hanging around up top. Fable 2 has also been on pre-order longer.

Maybe people are just waiting to see what kind of pre-order bonuses their are before deciding where to order from. Hopefully that is the case.

I've asked all my friends who have PS3s if they are buying Little Big Planet, most of them don't know what it is. Then I tell them what it's about and I get no reaction.

I would have thought Little Big Planet would be beasting Too Human sales. Too Human has so much bad rep revolving around it and it's selling more? I know Too Human comes out tomorrow, but DAMN, even Fable 2 is outselling Too Human at this point.

id say its a little unfair to compare fable 2, a huge game with a track record selling to a userbase thats roughly twice as large and gobbles up games like a hungry hungry hippo, to a new IP from Sony that hasnt even bagan its marketing push a bit unfair.

That said, also saying too human being ahead of LBP (assuming your using amazon) as indication too human will sell more when LBP doesnt even come out for 2 months....just wow. Youre logic astounds me. LBP will sell 3x Too Human. mark my words.

The next flop is going to be left for dead, imo. I think there are far to many great complex, story driven shooters with far more substance coming out for. including resistance, gears 2.....i think it will get lost in the shuffle and have mediocre sales.....speaking strictly from a console analysis.

PS. Most of your friends dont know what LBP yet and neither does the majority of gamers out there...since there havent been any commercials or any marketing....but when i showed the video to my girlfriend with Battles playing in the background she was very interested....she hates games. I love games and am very interested......that right there is why LBP will be huge. Its as close to hitting all markets as possible form Sony. No way this game flops.

also the bolded areas contradict one another....if its so anticipated why do your friends not know about it?

Anticipated among forum geeks I suppose, I guess thats where all the hype has been. I thought my friends would have known about, but I guess I was wrong.

I do know that Amazon isn't a good way to track sales. Soul Calibur sold more on PS3 but sold less in the real world. I also referenced Gamestop. >_<

I'm not the only one saying LBP might FAIL BTW.  ^_^ I just told you why it looks like it's failing. I did my part to make it not FAIL, my pre-order is with Gamestop (I don't hate the game)

Ohhh, that is a really good reason why it won't fail, just because you like it. Just because of that, the whole world will too. haha come on dude, my reason was better. Yes, your logic astounds me too.

All new IPs face this hurtle.  Mainstream gamers won't really find out about LBP until it's released, when word of mouth combined with heavy marketing will get the word out.

Fable II, etc. already have at least some brand recognition.  If a guy that played Fable walks into GameStop and sees a flier for Fable II, they'll be like, "Sweet! A sequel!"  When they see LittleBigPLanet, or any other new IP, they'll probably be like, "What's this?" or ignore it completely, up until right before launch.

Once the TV ads start going in full force, and once people actually play the game, and starting telling their friends about it, that's when things will pick up.

The same goes for any new IP.

I think it all boils down to marketing.  Sony is desperate for JRPGs, so they will push WKC heavily.

Look at Dark Cloud 1/2.  Dark Cloud was one of the first JRPGs on the ps2, and Sony marketed the game rather well. They had TV spots comparing it to Zelda, and it sold decently (went Greatest Hits). Hell, the only reason I bought it was because of a commercial comparing it to Zelda (and once I played it, I found out it was very different from Zelda, but it was a good game nonetheless).

Then a few years later along came Dark Cloud 2.  It received little to no marketing (I didn't even find out it existed until I saw it used at GameStop two years later), and sold quite a bit less than what the original sold (didn't come anywhere close to making Greatest Hits), despite being (arguably) Level 5's best game to date.

Because of Sony's current situation, WKC should follow a path similar to that of the original Dark Cloud, rather than that of it's successor.  It should be marketed very well, and assuming it's a really good game (like Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest VIII, rather than Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy, which were still good, don't get me wrong) then it should sell very well.

Will it move consoles in Japan?  Now that I can't say.

errrrrrrrrrrm maybe resistance

It really goes to show that it doesn't matter how long some have played games for when u read some peoples answers. How could it be M.A.G when it's so far away and it HASN'T been hyped yet?

LBP,... lol, clueless indeed! LBP has way too much momentum, push and love from the media for that to happen, keep dreamin' though. I wonder if the same people that said MGS4 will flop are the ones who are saying LBP?

I am going to say Spore as well and/or the Force Unleashed.
