Adventure is on occasion described as the "spiritual forerunner" of Zelda and Final Fantasy, yeah it was amazing at the time, only text based action-adventure games existed before Adventure

Such a thing is probably lost to time... as i believe most early videogames were never released to the mass public, just made by people who could program for the hell of it.

So it's probably some random monster that nobody but a nerd and his friends new about.

I'm gonna hope it was Frankenstein though.

In a commercial game Space Invaders would be up there (1978)

 



Computer Space (1971) had enemies.
dnd (1974) had a dragon boss.

I'm not sure how you want to define monster, but these both predate Space Invaders.
