Pretty much all companies have their games released by Black Friday, so anything in December is usually just a holding date.

Don't they normally say something like TBA Q4 2008 or something as a placeholder instead of an actual date?
It does seem pretty far fetched they'll have it out then though, even in Japan.

Remember when FFX was released sort of out of the blue? It seems like Square is going to take forever and a day to finish something then suddenly, its there and ready to go.
