Forums - Gaming - If Apple came out with a gaming system next gen would you buy it?

I would anticipate that it would be like their other products. Extremely overpriced. An Apple iPOS console would most likely cost $2500 for no particular reason. Therefor Hell No!

Actually, right now the AppleTV is fairly competitively priced at $229. Given Apple's history on pricing it's very likely that it won't go up in price.

It would depend on the games. If It had great games, yes.

Personally, I think the next company to enter the console market, is EA.

If the console wasn't ridiculously expensive(because I can only get one console that's like that next gen, ps4 or xbox720 : ), and if it had good games, and a good controller, I would get it.

But I would probably get mad when they released a better version a month later. :P

So far they've only upgraded the AppleTv through software updates, but if they ever add games that may indeed change...

As for the people bringing up the Pippin, Apple is a totally different company now. Very, very few (only one or two) of their products have been failures in the last 10 years, and recently they have been doing VERY well. They would only put a serious effort into the games market if they actually believed they had a chance.

But when a cable box has DVR and cable has interactive channels (like here in Orlando - I'm not sure of other markets) why would any one need Apple TV?

Apple could work a deal with a cable company to distribute Apple TV as a cable box but then Apple gets cut out of the digital distribution and Apple TV would have to be completely compatible with other set top boxes to be considered for approval by most state governments.

Too grampy: I love my Ipod, I don't download music.  I buy CD's - I'm old fashioned I like the package.  I don't like subscriptions because I spend less than $9 a month.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Doesn't matter if all members of this site say no b/c Apple is a mainstream company that most likely would succeed since they know how to make electronic gadgets cool and in fact I think they are the only ones that could come up with something that could compete with the Wii or its next incarnation

What are you looking at, nerd?

well first off i'd buy PS4 because i'm brand loyal. secondly i'd check it out. because i may buy a second console. I'd either buy the apple system or the next xbox.

I despise Apple, so I think that answers the question.

Proud owner of the following gaming devices:

PC, XBox 360, Wii, PS2, DS, PS3

Even MS had game studios well before the Xbox was launched. Apple has really no game development resources and would have to rely on 3rd party almost exclusively. And in order to get 3rd parties to develop they would have to give dev kits out like a year in advance. There is no way they can keep that kind of thing secret.

Sam Yikin:

What are you a spokesman for AppleTV or something? (joking tone)

but seriously Who the hell in their right mind would pay $229 for a glorified cable box then pay an additional $2 a pop for an elsewise FREE show
appleTV is the biggest and dumbest iRippoff yet

AppleTV = Super Epic FAIL
