Forums - Gaming - Will Next-Gen Consoles' Hardware Be Better Than All Today?

I think it should be at least on the same level as the 360 but it could also be as powerful as the current PS3 which will be outdated by then.

I kinda get the feeling that Nintendo's next console isn't going to be much more powerful than the Wii, will have another selling point like the Wiimote, and be priced at a fairly high price that isn't worth it to maximize profits due to inevitably enormous sales.

Actually the Wii doesn't use DVD. It uses Nintendo's own proprietary disc that has faster load times, and the same amount of storage as a DVD. The drive is capable of running dvds though. Nintendo will probably use it's own proprietary form of blu-ray or something similar to avoid fees.

This generation Nintendo made a mistake. If they only knew what their Wii has become today. They would have made their console a lot stronger. Because right now they are seeing all big third party games on PS360. The Wii could really dominate this generation. Unfortunately Nintendo isn't giving core gamers their needs. That's why the market share is 50-50. PS360 - Wii. It could have been 20-80.

I assume next generation Nintendo will attract more core gamers. Their aim should be that all third party developers make games for the new console. High-end system with advanced motion controls.

Nintendo always had a high end system why not next generation?

This is a rather...dumb statment.

What do you mean by "a lot stronger"? Do you mean HD levels or less? Enhanced graphics wouldn't somehow make the Wii increase nearly 40% in market share. No way. That's crazy talk. Second, HD isn't that popular right now. In some years it will be A LOT more popular (likely next gen...where every system is HD). Again, you expect HD (which isn't extremely popular right now) to bring up the Wii nearly 40% market share?

Also, every dev before the Wii and PS3 launched had in mind the PS3 would dominate the same way the PS2 had, hence why you've seen so many main series titles to be PS3 exclusive (though now most of them went multiplatform with the 360 and some switced to the Wii like MH3).

If they made an HD system this gen I would FULLY expect it to be 3rd place and have the worst third party support for the remainder of the gen. Nintendo would be destroyed.

But besides that, I agree with your last two paragraphs. No doubt Nintendo will win this gen with the Wii and successors to the #1 console ALWAYS get huge support really fast. Just look at the NES --> SNES and PS1 --> PS2. The same will happen to Nintendo's next console. Nintendo's next console will obviously attract more core gamers with the third party support and no doubt the graphics which a lot of people complain about.

Next gen will be...interesting.

By a lot I mean HD graphics like PS3 360. You are right about HD it isn't really popular. However blockbusters are released on PS360. If the Wii was just a strong as those consoles. They would've had FF XIII, Assasin's Creed, Resident Evil 5, Soul Calibur, Star Oceon 4, Orange Box, Far Cry 2, Rainbow 6 Vegas, and so on. Add motion controls and not so many gamers would buy an 360 or PS3 just for their first party games. This leads to 3rd party exclusives for Nintendo and a Ps2ish market share.

I basically agree with what Doktor is saying. I think when it comes to Nintendos next console, it's not going to have overly excessive amounts of processing power that it'll be priced outside of massmarkets range. They'll do JUST ENOUGH for it to be competitive with whatever Sony and Microsoft bring out. They'll do JUST ENOUGH for it NOT to be left out of about 50% of the third party games they're missing this gen. They'll do JUST ENOUGH for them to break even from the get-go, maybe even make a nice little profit.

To put it into perspective, wasn't Nintendo making a $50 profit the very day the launched the Wii? If they were to bust their balls just a little bit, and put some of that money they're swimming around in to good use, they'll be very competitive next generation.

At the same time, Sony and Microsoft will be looking to stay competitive with Nintendo, which is why it'll probably be the gen of Wii 2, 3 and 4. :D

Yes, why in the world would they not?

The next Nintendo console, I believe will be weaker then the ps3 though.

Why do you think that?

To be honest, I think Nintendo believes that the same trick will work again. Just like Sony...

Even if they did do the same thing again, why would it be weaker than the PS3? The Wii is significantly more poweful than the original xbox/Gamecube so why would the next console be weaker?

Sony over did it this gen in terms of hardware. Which makes me think the next Nintendo console won't be as powerful as the ps3. The ps3 is compatible with all kinds of hardware...

The Xbox was really powerful last gen yet the Wii is stronger than it. Why wouldn't it be more powerful than the PS3/360?

It will be your talking3-4 years until they release the next console things will be so much more powerful they can get a ps3 or 3360 powered device out for $250.00 I mean MS is almost at that proce point now.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

For the people who think Nintendo would produce a system which was only as powerful as the XBox 360 or PS3 ...

The performance level of the XBox 360 and PS3 is really awkward in that they can do many advanced things (graphical, ai, physics) that define this generation, but they tend to struggle to do them and it is difficult to do many of these things at the same time; in contrast the Wii is in a different position in that it can only (really) do the things that defined the previous generation but you can do most of them at the same time, at a high quality, without really impacting game performance.

To put this another way, most PS3 or XBox 360 games have a few things that are impressive for the generation like advanced shaders, a large open world, or really good physics/ai but almost no games have all these things at the same time and maintain a HD resolution at a decent framerate. In contrast to this the (best) Wii games tend to do everything that was impressive in the previous generation (bump mapping, multi-texturing, partical/lighting effects) at a high level at the same time.

If the next Nintendo system was put in the same position in comparison to this generation as the Wii was (compared to the previous generation) it would be much more powerful than the PS3/XBox 360. The best way I can think of explaining this difference is, the difference in performance would be similar to the difference between the Dreamcast and the Wii.

Guys i think the ps4 and the 720 will have photo realistic graphics and the wii2 will have graphics a lot less the xbox 360. thats what i think. but as some said earlier the wii2 will be 2 or 3 hundred less the its copetition.

No chance in hell of that happening.
