It's new for anybody who isn't Blizzard or pre-MS Bungie. :P
I would guess that EA is doing this because The Sims franchise has been really successful on the Mac.

I definitely hope this becomes more widespread in the industry, as the mac is a far more relevant platform then it was 10 years ago.
EA is basically going to try and mine an almost untapped resource. Pretty smart move.
That's nice. Still wouldn't buy a Mac but it's nice for owners of Macs.
