Forums - Gaming - The "Tales of" series, and exactly why Vesperia is a "big deal"

ToL wasn't that remembered at all but TotA was remember by Japanese fans as the best game in the series, atleast until Vesperia came out.

Come to think of it, I think legendia was known for being the worst in the series, lol. Abyss didn't really have a big legacy though, like say, moving hardware like Vesperia and Symphonia did. Though it was the best in the series, and still my favorite JRPG ever. So it had more of a legacy within its fanbase, but not all too much else.

I agree. Symphonia was an awesome game, but Abyss is slightly better. I hope that Tales of Vesperia will meet my high expectations. Though it might surely surpass them!

From what I heard, Vesperia is being considered the best game in the series.  Not sure if that's true or not but that's what I heard

@Godot Mass Effect and Gears are on PC. So I guess that "only" excludes pc right?

I seriously doubt Tales of vesperia will be going to PC. So its pretty assured that its JUST for 360.

THEN AGAIN! Looking at my Symphonia game here, it says "Only For Gamecube". Though it went to PS2. So who knows. All I know is that if it IS gonna come out for PS3, it'll probably be 2011-12. If you want to wait 3-4 years for a game that probably is never coming out for PS3, ya know, be my guest.

I know, but he said that the games usually stay exclusive if they have that"Only For" but those games went to PC. Though if it does get ported I see it getting ported to the Wii, because it doesn't really look too graphically impressive, and nothing the Wii really can't handle, and the Wii would probably bring much more sales than the PS3. Though I doubt it will be ported at all because the 360 game sold fairly well in Japan, and we have yet to see how it will perform in other regions. Namco did take a heavy hit last quarter iirc, and if they didn't make that money back then I am going to guess there will be a few ports. Syphonia Dotnw, vesperia, Sky Crawlers,Fragile, Tekken, Tales of Hearts, etc should sell pretty well though.

Oh...wow. Wonder why they put only on Xbox 360 then.

@Riachu

Where have you heard people say it was the best in the series? I haven't heard anything like that =/

Why? Check above posts.

Famitsu called it the best in the series so far. Also:

http://forums.xbox.com/22120621/ShowPost.aspx

Check Runex's lower post. I've been hearing a good bit about it being the best in the series in other places, I know one was the Tales forum.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I don't think Namco is going to fool around with the Cell just for a port though, especially since the majority of Tales sales come from Japan and PS3 isn't exactly lighting up the charts there in the first place. With none of the core Tales teams having any known experience with the PS3's architecture that might be just a little too much trouble for a Vesperia port. PS3 fanbs may be hungry for JRPGs, but tha'ts what FF13 is for.

a ps3 port is more likely.

cell even without spe use can run this game easily.

So could the Wii, and it would probably bring in more sales due to the tales series already being established on the Wii, and the higher userbase. Also it would probably be cheaper to port it to the Wii due to its similar architecture of the 360's cpu and the Wii's cpu compared to the 360's and and the PS3s. Gpus also.

Umm...don't they put "Only on Xbox 360" on exclusive games anyway? I mean there's no PS3 (or Wii) version planned...so I don't see why they wouldn't put "only on Xbox 360" when right now...that's the only system you can get the game.

Btw, Legendia is remembered for having the best soundtrack in the series O_o I mean I've listened to some songs but they don't sound as great as Symphonia or Destiny or Eternia. The best ToL song IMO is "Hurry". As for the actual game itself, it's a love/hate it game (kinda similar to FF VIII). You either put it really high on your list of awesome Tales games...or really low in your list of sucky Tales games.

Nope. The "Only on Xbox 360" is quite final.

Look for yourself:

Those games will be released on PS3 this year but these will never:

Tales of Vesperia didn't sell all that much compared to the other Tales games. It would have sold much better on PS3.

Anyway, I really don't care if that game doesn't sell as much as it would have in Japan because I practically bought a 360 for this game (well that and all the other JRPG).

actually you are wrong.

gears is on pc too, and mass effect 2+ isn't exclusive.

Wait, so mass Effect 2 has been confirmed for a console already? pretty odd, considering  there are no details for it whatsoever, and they only KNOW its gonna be on 360. So...source?

Pokemon is a child fandom? ROFL. A lot of adults play Pokemon so I don't know what you're talking about.

As for ports, (I don't think a port even seems necessary...unless they said they made little money on ToV) the Wii has a larger userbase and will have a decent established fanbase on it once ToS: DotNW and the new Tales hits. Personally I think ToS: DotNW will be bigger in the West than Japan (like the first ToS was) so it'll have a pretty good userbase in Japan, but an even bigger one in the West. West check. The new Wii Tales is rumored to be made by Team Destiyn (they are the only free team...so I think we can say confirmed right about now) and we know how much Japan LOOOOOOOOOVES Team Destiny games. The top 4 selling Tales in Japan just so happen to be Team Destiny's games. Not only that, but they've only made 4 Tales games so we can say Team Destiny is HUGE in Japan. With this new Wii Tales we could have a really good sized Tales fanbase in Japan. A lot better than the PS3 which has...no proven Tales fanbase at all.

Just because Team Destiny made the best selling Tales games in Japan doesn't mean that Team Destiny are more popular.  I think the reason why Team Symohonia's Tales games aren't selling as well as Team Destiny's games were is because the Tales series is general has been waning in popularity in Japan(look at the sales figures of the newer Tales games compared to the old Tales games if you don't believe me)

No.

Team Destiny are more popular than Team Symphonia in Japan. When you factor in the other regions THEN Team Symphonia is a bigger team. I was just using Japan and Team Destiny is definitely a lot more popular. Look at sales if you don't believe me.

In Japan, they seem to like 2D Tales over 3D Tales - that's what Team Destiny excels at. In the West they prefer 3D - that's what Team Symphonia excels at. I mean...it's not like they hate the other team or something lol. Just different teams appeal to different regions. Team Destiny appeals to Japan...Team Symphonia to the West.

If what you are saying is true, then I wouldn't be suprised if ToH sell more copies than TotT and ToI sold combined
