Forums - Microsoft - Everyone should not buy Braid

Hmm for a minute there I thought you were taking a different slant on this.

Like, everyone shouldn't buy Braid because maybe devs (even indies) should learn to publish more dynamically. I mean, is Braid that graphic intensive? Why couldn't this come out for WiiWare as well? Wasn't it a big issue for Mr. Blow to develop for xbla? Why you wanna develop for one system that's killing you policies, procedures and costs to struggle to make a profit, when you could have done it in others ways where you were a bit more guaranteed. Now you're forcing ppl to go one direction, and you're making no profit. boo.

But hey, it's difficult being an indie dev, I'm really not wanting to rip on the man.

It would fill up half the fridge.
Braid is 145 MB, how big are WiiWare games?

I just checked and the limit for WiiWare is like 40 MB.  So there is your answer, if you want to play Braid get a bigger fridge.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

yea i liked the demo but i just couldn't see myself playing the actual game of it

Gamefaq ruin every games and not just Braid. However, that said I do used it regularly because those good days where I played games day and night and eat, sleep, thinking about game I was playing are long gone.

With jobs, kids, family, works I would never finish any games without Gamefaq. As for Braid, I stump on one puzzle and I did look up hint for that particular one but I don't feel my experience was ruin in anyway. Without looking that up I probably would stop playing the games and most likely not get back to it for months and months.

The game definitely gives you a sense of accomplishment if you can finish it with no hints. It's nice to play a game like that, one that isn't catered to the lowest common denominator. Which in turn, is why Twesterm is right in saying that not everyone should get this game.

I don't mean to be an asshole, but you're entirely wrong and must have a brain malfunction, my girlfriend who is terrible at games got a good half of the puzzle pieces before 'finishing' and enjoyed it to death, and does want to go back and get more, just because someone can't beat it the whole way naturally doesn't mean they can't enjoy it.

More so, use a guide or have someone help you if you want to beat it and can't.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

My gf who can't play anything but sonic the hedgehog played braid and wouldn't let go of the controller. Sure I had to tell her where to go and what to do...but she said it was the best game shes ever played.

First of all, I hope a commerical release for Braid comes to the Wii (too big for WiiWare in the current storage state according to the developer).

Second, there is nothing wrong with an occassional use of FAQs. Sometimes we have other stuff to do and get stuck. But I agree that playing with by just following the FAQ is not really playing.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I don't know if you actually read my post or not but remember I said Braid is a fantastic game.  I also said it just isn't a game for everybody.  Sure, a lot of people will like it and it's awesome your girlfriend likes it but that doesn't mean Joe blow will also love it.

But of Joe Blow starts reading message boards and sees topic after topic of OMG Braid is awesome!!!  Even my GF LUVS iT!!! GET THIS GAME LOL then he will probably be tempted to get the game.  What that super informative person didn't bother telling poor Joe is that the game is hard, can be very frustrating, and you can't really brute force your way through puzzles like you can in something like Portal.  They're going to get the game and since they don't like puzzle games, don't have the patience, don't have the skill, or whatever they're going to hate it.

Demo. Any 360 capable of buying Braid is capable of downloading the demo and trying out World 2. That should give anyone a good enough impression of the game to make their own informed decision. So again, why this game and not any others with a warning thread? If anything all warning threads should go to Wii games since you can't demo them.
