Haha.. you sure this isn't a Playstation 1 your trying to play? If so, try tiltling it in every angle possible? 45 degrees works most of the time or try upside down next. PSX was the most craptastic hardware ever, all 3 of mine failed. ^_^
I suggest using rubbing alcohol and a Brillo Pad. I use that combination to clean my PS3 games, and hitherto it has worked every time.
