Forums - Microsoft - Steaming PC media to the XBox360 - HOWTO

It's much easier in Vista, almost automatic. All I had to do was click allow when my PC picked up my 360/XBMC.

Technically it should be as easy with Windows XP but then again I ran into the most problems when trying to get it to stream off my network drive.

So I tried the "steaming" method and yea my PC and 360 are dead. Thx a lot.

Nah jk good quality post as stated before.

If users have Vista, there is already a way to stream Netflix Instant Movies through to the 360. Unfortunately it cannot be done with XP. I had no problems getting mine hooked up. I usually stream Tool whilst I am playing.

Hi there, i'm sorry to revive this old post but i can't find the answer nowhere.

My question is this, i don't have a file server, i have my 360 connected directly to a router via ethernet connection, and i get the "Unplayable Content - 19-04-80004005" error for all my files.

So in the 5º step of the solution it says "Select This Account Radio Button, and fill in account name and password you use to log into your file server (e.g. SAMBA)"; and since i don't have a file server, don't know what name and password to use.

If anyone can help me i'll be very grateful.

Thanks.

Wow, this is old.  I remember back in 2008 I wrote this... the memories!  You probably have already figured it out but this may help someone else... that error is usually related to the XBox not having the proper codec installed which can be easily remedied by automatically (XBox will prompt you to update when you run the file) or manually updating the codecs in the system configuration (under media).  If it's asking for a password then exit out and try to connect to XBox live.  Once you establish a connection to Live then you know you're online then simply play the file to download the latest codec.  If it fails at this point then Microsoft cannot play the file due to licensing issues.  For anyone else who has this problem, skip Xbox and use your TVs or BluRays built in media player, much simpler!

One useful tip for those who want to play mp4 on their 360... just change the extension name to avi and it'll work. I didn't tried it through media player but on a usb key it works perfectly.

i used a third party program, forget which one, but it allowed the streaming of all video formats so thats why i used it. was an easy set up too.
