Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 HDD idea...

What if MSFT released a HDD just like the 20, 60, and 120 types but included a slide in bay in the front of the accessory for 2.5 inch drives like Sony's idea.  MSFT would still make $$$ off the drives as they would include a drive at retail but the end user could upgrade it at will.  MSFT said they had more features to announce after the new dash reveal but they didn't say what.  Could this be a plausible future accessory?

MS isn't going to get rid of their lucrative revenue stream of selling hard drives. They sell 20 gig HDDs for 100$! That's like a 500% Markup!

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

They would continue to sell them w/ they proprietary price and HDD. The customizable feature would be afterward. Although I see your point as they would be able to sell one HDD sku and now they have 3 and will soon have 2.

Devs perefer the detachable drives, easier to carry demos around. That's why game demos at the shows are usually ran off of 360s

Did anyone read my first post?  The gamer's bigger HDD would be inserted into the propietary case.  It could still be carried around.

While it's possible to do something to that effect I seriously doubt they would, more likely they'd just make different sizes available for purchase.

Well, they already announced that they'll be releasing the "Live Starter Pack" which will include a 60gb hard disk for $99.00, so I doubt they have any additional plans to change how they package their hard drives. At least you'll be getting a bit more for the price (and a few months of live).
