Here are some games that I think should come out only once per videogame system cycle and my reasoning why.

Ridge Racer/Wipeout  - The gameplay for these games has been pretty much solidified during ps1 era and all the new games since just update the graphics, tracks and tunes... Don't get me wrong, these games still rock but there really is no need to make it more than once every gen.

Soul Calubur/ Virtua Fighter/ Tekken/DOA  - Back when 3D fighting games were new and fresh it was cool to see tekken and virtua fighter series 2-3 times every generation. However those times have passed and these days it seems hard for devs to come up with new radical features for these games. Just take a look at DOA4, VF5 and now Soul Cal 4 and compare them to their predecessors...not much has changed. I think one of these games every gen would be enough in order for devs to collect their ideas and deliver something new every gen.

Mario Kart - same game for the last 3 gens. Improved visuals, and new control scheme (in Wiis case) should only be updated once per gen.

Tomb Raider - Its getting hard to tell when these games are being ported from PS2, updated for PS360, or designed for the Wii. Seems like the series is all over the place in terms of quality and quantity. One epicly amazing game per gen would fix this and give the series the credibility it once had.

Anyone else care to give their 2 cents on this? What games should be done only once per gen?

I'll add F-Zero in here, but I don't really have a decent reason. They just need to add 30 players racing online with no lag, no need to change anything after that (F-Zero GX was perfect).

I can't really agree with Tomb Raider. I think they did a great job of reinventing the series and Tomb Raider Underworld for the PS3 and 360 is a different team than the Wii and PS2 versions.

Halo is something I think should be once every generation. I don't care about the spin offs, but I think Halo 4 shouldn't appear until the earliest, launch time for the new Microsoft console.

Conker should get a game evey generation. Unlike what were aiming for here, this is supposed to be an improvement over the two times we have played the same game.

Super Smash Bros....except...Brawl was a letdown (character wise..stage wise...created stage wise...third party support wise...(characters assists and stages))

so..all in all..

I hope they can make a Brawl DX by the end of 2010....with way more 3d party support..

I played the Tomb Raider Legend for 360 and it felt a lot like a ps2 game (then I found out it is a last gen game ported over). Then they did the remake which again was done on all platforms imaginable. We will see how Underworld does I guess...

Mortal Kombat-getting milked like crazy and has gone downhill since Deception

James bond...They come up with like 400,000 each gen...

to me...SC has been going downhill after SCII...SCII was awesome...because it added something completely new..1st party characters (kind of)

SCIII was too much like SCII to me...and SCIV....my opinion on it is..

it's complete crap...adding SW characters?! making it DOA style? (everyone has big boobs)

nah...I'm going to pass...Legends wasn't that great either..Lloyd was good though XD

Any game with Mario. Countless games are released every generation.

But they're all good, weird huh (at least the main series)? ;)
