I am not terribly impressed with the video. Too much tech demo, bad music choice, and to much pretentious focus on the locale. Not to mention there appears to be nothing that makes this title stand out as unique or even desirable. The game is coming across as sterile without a strong focus. What am I supposed to do in this game admire the scenery or shoot everything in sight.
There just seems to be so much in the same vein on the 360 already, and coming out over the course of the next few months. I do not feel any need to play what looks like a cheap Grand Theft Auto knockoff with some poor role playing elements laid over a point and click interface. How can this title compete against the likes of Fallout 3 or even Huxley. The game is just coming off as another tired retread. With no compelling concept.
I hope this game is not set in stone it needs more originality. Not just gimmicks, but a fresh concept. Perhaps the island could be overrun by some deranged cult turning people into monsters of something. Meaning the character not only needs to survive, but also has to unravel the mystery. Turn the environment into a game of hide and seek rather then a convenient back drop. Make the focus survival by evasion rather then just gunning everything down.
I have been playing Oblivion a lot recently, and it occurs to me that the plains of Oblivion are a rather tense gaming experience. Especially when you have no intention of cutting your way through the hoards, but instead try to stealth and mad dash your way through the environment. This might be the kind of environment that would lend it self to that kind of adrenaline game play.
