Good game? Yes.
Good community? Questionable.
System seller? Not a chance.

This is all just hype trying to make you want the game more.

Explain, why its not a system seller. Its new, looks fun, kids can play it, hardcore gamers can play it. Heck, even girls can play it.

I don't see how this can apply to software and console sellers of  GTA IV. Halo, MGS4 since these appeal to alot of the hardcore gamers. If you can attract a more different group, it would sell more yes? Also this should boost up in Japan since they love cute stuff, the sackboys isn't creepy at all.

The idea of system sellers is just stupid.  Yes, there are those rare games like MGS4, SSBB, and Halo 3 that do sell systems but not every good game is a system seller.  If that were true the Gamecube would have outsold everything last generation.

LBP does in fact look like a great game that will capture the casual crowd, but there are a few problems:

  1. Do they know about the game?  Probably no.
  2. Sony is advertising this game on ESPN with sports game, bad idea.  Sports fans don't care about this game.
  3. While the people that scan message boards and game news sites for every bit of information know everything about this game and that it isn't only kiddy, everyone else doesn't.  The PS3 is a super hardcore system and LBP looks too kiddy for most users that don't know any better.  Sadly, that is going to be the majority of users.
  4. People don't like spending $460 for a single game.

Alot of people said the same stuff about the wii, people were laughing and thinking it was a joke, now that its number one in sales. Now the joke is on them right?

oh well whatever, we shall see when the game comes out in October and the results show.

EDIT: @twesterm, thank you. Now I understand your reason of saying it. You do have a point.

If they do good marketing and bundles then it will sell many units.

Hearing Sony PR makes me want to go smash a pile of PS3's with cinderblocks.

Amen, well put. The whole concept of the system seller game really is a dated remnant of the past.

Even with the reasons stated, I do agree with your points but I still have faith that it will sell consoles. Not to LARGE significant amounts like MGS4, Halo3, and SSB. But to an amount higher than normal for more than one week. I think people are getting the idea it WILL BE BIG like those games. The idea of it selling consoles for this game is true, it will sell consoles but not in a LARGE form. Even a small increase in PS3 sales that week when it comes out proves that it will sell. Not saying it will sell GREATLY.

Thanks to whoever edited my thread I could not get it to copy for me for some reason.
OT I do,nt think it will be a big hardware mover.
Certainly nothing on the scale of mgs4 or gt5.

Oh I agree it will see a sells spike for a week, but I don't consider that an actual system seller.  A weeks (or even 2 or 3 weeks) sales spike isn't something super significiant.

A system seller is something that makes a significant difference for a significant amount of time.

Common theme in this thread from people who said yes and no: SONY HAS TO MARKET THIS RIGHT.

This and DC Universe Online if marketed right, have so much damned potential to get huge numbers of varying people into this (wonderful) console.

If sony keep pumping out montage commercials showing a bunch, and showcasing nothing..bah..it'll still sell, but the chance for HUGE numbers is right there.

PSN: TheGodofWine (Warhawk / R2 / MotorStorm PR)

AND

PSN: Skigazzi (for KZ2 and future games)

Also with the increase of sales coming for the holidays, its hard to tell if people will buy the PS3 just for this game or for something else. If it came out in the spring time or summer, it is easier to tell.
