Forums - Sony - Little Big Planet Will Be Hardware Seller Claims Sony

This isn't going to appeal to the PS3 crowd really. It will do very well but its hard to imagine a game like this making the PS3 a hardware success.

well if a lot of us want the game and own the PS3, what do you think? aren't we part of that crowd too?

Precisely because of that ,it will sell the console to non-playstation demographics.

Good game? Yes.
Good community? Questionable.
System seller? Not a chance.

This is all just hype trying to make you want the game more.

The games people want on web-forums is not related to the games that most people buy ...

By the way people talk about games like Madden and World War II shooters on forums you'd think that these games were niche products that had difficulty breaking even on their development costs; in contrast the way people talk about quirky and unique games would give you the impression that these were the best selling games ever.

If this game does help move consoles it will be a bit after its release, through things like word of mouth or playing it somewhere etc.

I wonder how this will do in Japan, it has an artistic design that you think would have appeal there.

How many people who are not heavily interested in the current and upcomming line-up of games for the PS3 will spend $400 simply to play one game?

There have been a couple of games that have sold a lot of people systems based on their own strength alone, but the vast majority of "System Sellers" are games which gently push people over the edge in buying a system.

Explain, why its not a system seller. Its new, looks fun, kids can play it, hardcore gamers can play it. Heck, even girls can play it.

I don't see how this can apply to software and console sellers of  GTA IV. Halo, MGS4 since these appeal to alot of the hardcore gamers. If you can attract a more different group, it would sell more yes? Also this should boost up in Japan since they love cute stuff, the sackboys isn't creepy at all.

Its a kiddy platformer at heart...

I have a gut feeling the gameplay may well wind up being a bit one dimensional.

The user generated content is interesting but at the end of the day how many variations on get from point A to point B whilst jumping about can there be.

I dont think this will be a bad game but I also fail to see it being stellar.

I wait to be proved right or wrong.

Either way I do concede the graphics look gorgeous.

I dunno... why don't you ask nintendo that?

They seem to be making BILLIONS of dollars on a kiddy platformer that for the past 20 years has been jumping from point A to point B.

I'm in the no camp. People have said my exact thoughts, but basically, a game like this isn't one to push hardware. It's a game with a unique look that could drive away buyers, but also one that is targeting the most hardcore of demographics. It's even questionable if this could hit 1million units.

This is all assuming it has normal advertisement and no bundle.
