Forums - Gaming - Developers Survey - 73% working on 360, 58% working on PS3, 42% on Wii

I think it's rather obvious that the teams behind a lot of Wii's 3rd-party games are really, really small in comparison with the teams working on brand new next-gen games for both 360 and PS3. If you count out Nintendo on the Wii there's only a few really good games. Most of the games (face it or not) are:

1) Cheap ports (Okami, Re 4) Great games yes! But ports!

2) Casual titles (My word coach, My horse and me, Petz 2: Dogzzz).

3) Compilation of Minigames or 'old' games (200 Arcade games in 1, Rayman Raving Rabbits etc...)

4) Actually good games from 3rd-parties, but with obviously smaller dev-teams then those that are working on 360/PS3. (Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Boom Blox, The Godfather; Blackhand Edition).

Concluding; More games on Wii, less devs working on Wii... (=less 3rd-party quality titles on Wii?!!?!??!??!)

The in-depth 180-page report was compiled by surveying almost 2,000 video game professionals from North America and beyond who read Gamasutra.com or subscribe to Game Developer magazine.

Overall, 70% of those replying are making games on the PC or Mac, with 43% creating for console and 28% for web platforms - with just 16% making games for handheld platforms such as the DS or PSP.

Of the surveyed console developers, which represent a notable cross-section of the entire industry, 73% are creating games for Xbox 360, 58% for the PlayStation 3, and 42% for the Wii - with 15% still creating games for the PlayStation 2

This implies that the greatest amount of Western console developers by sheer numbers are creating games for Microsoft's console - but due to team size differences, this doesn't necessarily imply that more games will appear on the Xbox 360 than other consoles.

Doesn't the last sentence make this whore thread irrelevant?

It's just statistical precentages in North America.  Reading between the lines, you can tell that it's just statistics that doesn't equate to the reality of the big picture.  But the last statement clarifies as such.

I'll add, Gamasutra is an industry website.  The number of games in development probably wasn't the primary purpose of the artice, and definitely not for the study.

It's to see what/how/where developers are getting work.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

This actually implies that the greatest amount of Western developer are making games for the PC or Mac.

I assume the average Wii game has a team about 1/4 the size of the PS3/360 team.   The DS/PSP/XBLA/PNS teams are much smaller that this too.

I can see this as well.  Let's take a hypothetical Western developer what's developing for all three consoles.  That single developer will fall in all the precentages quoted.  It's very possible the number of games per console falls like this: 360 = 1, PS3 = 2, Wii = 3.  Makes sense.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

@Jordahn make that 5 Wii games 3 Xbox360 games and 2 PS3 games.

Tease.

Its funny that most people rant about how many 360 games they want to play and complain in the same breath about how the ps3 is too expensive or has no exclusives or no games period.

Do these people who can't afford a ps3 really have the money to buy all these games? Whats the point of having games now that you probably can't play till a year's time anyway? I sure didn't have enough money back in the ps2 gen. I have a lot of money saved up for gaming this time around though.

Gebx so this is some much needed good news for the X360?... claps... Here we go a X360 Propaganda thread created by the one and only gebx.

Nah, this is purely to increase my nerd cred (vg$), and I know how all you PS3 fanboys hate this stuff (aka positive news for the 360).

Because they spend all their money on the PS3 hardware they have even less money to buy games so they don't notice the difference in game libraries?

Sure, you can make up ANY configuration that floats your boat.  I was taking the percentages quoted from greatest to least and reciprocating that to show how "worst" case scenario can be very plausable in a reality of raw numbers as implied by the final statement of the article.

Errr at the very least it implies that the console games are still being led on the Xbox360/PC which is still the same thing when you think about it.

hehe, its called choices... I walk into the store, look at the wall of games and say "I'll pick..... this one!... no wait... THIS ONE!!!" then I scream like a little girl all the way back to the cashier and buy the game!

I know "selections" and "options" are hard concept to understand but I'm sure people will get it someday!
