So today I went to Target to get my X360 Premium console. Unexpectedly, they had an Elite sitting on the shelf. So I decided to get that one instead. I got there just at the right time. Bought DOA4 for my first game, and it looks pretty nice.
So initial impressions - a lot quieter than I expected. My friend's that he got at the end of 2005 was extremely loud. The power brick is also much lighter than his.
As far as the graphics are concerned, I haven't played GeOW for it, but right now Ninja Gaiden Sigma PS3 is looking the best right now. I'll probably rent GeOW, as I'm not a big shooter guy.
The controller - the 360 definitely wins big time. much more ergonomic. I like having the left analog stick where it is, because to be honest I don't have full fingers on my left hand (birth defect), so it is much easier to reach while also accessing the trigger functions. The first Xbox controller was nearly impossible for me.
The price - really not too much different than the PS3 with the elite. With the Live and Charger (I used wired internet), it only comes to $50 less than the PS3. I guess over time, the 360 will end up costing more as I have to pay for the service.
Upcoming line-up - I will have to admit my PS3 will probably be getting more of the time until Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata make its way. Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Lair are more the type of games I like until late August. I will be using alot of the media features for the time being.
Online - It's obvious the 360 takes the cake here, but Sony will be doing some massive changes as well, so we'll see in a few months.
So right now the Winner is (drumroll)...
TIE!!! If you are an FPS fan, the 360 would be the winner right now. I think both consoles will have good futures ahead of them. As long as both are around, then competition is good for the consumer. Fanboyism is really self-defeating. Last Generation, I was more Nintendo / Sony oriented. I think this generation I will be Sony/$MS oriented. While I plan on getting a Wii the next few months, it will be more my "side dish system" while the 360 and PS3 will be the "Main Entrees."
So yeah...
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
