Forums - Gaming - If Sony keeps the 10 year plan for the PS3 will it reach the 150 million?

@ all blu-ray skeptics: look at the sales data which show a 300% increase in blu-ray sales from last year.

Wow even the most delusional of ppl can realize a 300% increase from nothing still means nothing. That topic has been burned to death alrdy, try again.

Where did you get the data that there weren't any blu-rays sold, because I just bought some.

NES had a 20 year lifespan...

So probably not.

Unless for some reason PS3 is always cheaper then equal or better Blu-ray players like it is now. Then there is a chance...

Still seems unlikely.

Just saying. Even if it did more then triple... and they sold 33 million blu-ray discs in the US... for a total of 44 million at the end of the year in the US...

They'd still be 84 Million discs behind DVD at that point in it's lifespan.

Considering during februrary it was reported total blu-ray sales in europe had just passed 2 million...

Worldwide blu-ray sales are severly lagging behind US only DVD sales during the same time of life.

Blu-rays are being bought. Just in very small numbers.

When you take in adoption rates by looking at how successful movie rates were adopted. Blu-ray isn't going to be a major force in movies for 2-3 years... by then there should be better Blu-ray players for cheaper then the PS3.

That's if you assume the public is going to buy in on it with the movie companies trying to push them... as Laserdisc and failed formats had similar gains before falling off.

I think you missed his point ...

Suppose you have a format like DVD that sold 1 Billion discs in 2007, and a new format like Blu-Ray which sold 1 Million discs in 2007 ... If DVD sales increase by 5 Million units in 2008 that represents a 0.5% increase in DVD sales, and if Blu-Ray sees the same 5 Million unit increase in 2008 it will have a 500% increase in sales.

Large percentages of (relatively) small numbers are meaningless ... Most of 2007's Blu-Ray sales were amazingly low because there were few movies available and few people owned players to even buy these movies if they wanted them. With the library of Blu-Ray being much larger and there being far more PS3's owned by consumers a 300% increase is really not that large.

Maybe you need to buy a sarcasm meter while your at it. Since a few others had to explain the obvious to you im not going to bother.

Oh damn! I wanted to be the one to explain how percentages work...

I call dibs on it for the inevitable next thread on the subject.

If I live to be 120 years old will I outlive everyone on this website? I think Sony has as much chance of sticking to their 10yr plan as I have of living that long.

The well-wishing of people (who coincidentally always seem to have either Solid Snake, Cloud/Sephiroth or Fighting Game characters for their Avatars) really knows no bounds.

I don't know if this is just the Sony fandom trying to convince themselves things will turn out all right for their beloved PS3 or if this is in fact Viral Marketers.

Face it, you people only create these far fetched threads in hopes of recieving support from other members to help support your own wavering belief that such a thing will work. You're just trying to supplement your faith in the PS3 vicariously through a community mentality of preaching to the choir.

These support group threads are getting old.

Aren't Nintendo fans trying to believe the Wii will get 75% marketshare and MS fans believe that the 360 will somehow finish ahead of the PS3?
