I still think its funny that there were so many guys around citing Sony officials that there would be no price cut. Of course there will be one for christmas. How big will depend on their profitability, potential 360 price cuts and sales. They won't let Microsoft win this christmas.

The average consumer wants an annual price cuts on a video game console, same thing applies to every product. Price decreases over time as performance increases and size decreases.

Price cuts = more sales. Customer satisfaction is very, very important. November I predict we will see an American price cut. europe I do not know will stay the same price with the introduction of 80Gb PS3 in August.

American demand for PS3 = elastic demand. Price cut is necessary. Europe demand for PS3 = inelastic demand. No price cut is needed.

@Million: Sony said to their investors that they have already attained a userbase which makes a viable platform - 10 million.

Think if now Microsoft does drop the price on all their consoles then i think Sony will too.

@NJ5, I hope we all agree that what Sony "said" is completely irrelevant to what they DO regarding price cuts. They would be really daft if they would make hints about it. And making these comments to investors doesn't change anything.

Well over 50% of the PS2's sold around the world, were sold for less then $200. It's not going to be a game that causes them to upgrade. Most all of them would have a PS3 now, if it cost $150.

I LOLed because you somehow threw Fable 2 into a sentence about people with PS2's upgrading to PS3's. I thought that was funny.

@NJ 5 there will be a price cut. Why do you want PS3 to not drop the price? You like to pay more money? Should customers pay more money for PS3? $350 sounds like a good price and I would rather pay that instead of $400.

I think Fable 2 will cause many people to upgrade, but I don't think I even came close to implying the bolded........

If they were really desperate (which I don't think they are) at most they would do a very small price cut in America. But I don't think it will happen.
