Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: We Are Investing To Win In Europe

get PES exclu and give it a well needed face lift.... would already shrink the difference between PS3 and XB sales... now get a collin mcrae like kind of game exclu and something like football manager exclu too... I'm god damn sure XB will pass PS sales easily.... just open the money bag MS and you can kill Sony in less than a year....

M$ doesn't have ANY CHANCE to win in Europe. If cutting the price to 199 euros didn't save them, nothing will.

MS is still winning in the UK which is by far the biggest country in sales terms.

When the generation began it was explained to me by many European gamers that Europe was a subservient bitch to Sony. I suspect in part Sony viewed the European market in much the same way. That is why Europe was made to wait six months, and were then given a more expensive machine that had been gutted. Remember in comparison Japan and even North America got real loving from Sony.

Since then Nintendo has bent Europe over backwards on the table and had their way with it. Meanwhile mighty Sony spent much of last year in a close quarters knife fight with Microsoft. Sony still isn't number one, and a twenty three percent weekly margin with these low sales is the kind of lead that can evaporate in short order. In other words if Sony is ahead in Europe it is most certainly not by very much, and most certainly Sony is not some god like entity that cannot be overcome.

I never believed that Europeans were so stupid to only be swayed by brand name alone no matter what others told me, and you know what I was right. Nintendo proved me right. Sony spending over a year catching up to Microsoft in Europe has proven me right two. Does name brand matter yes is it a number one concern no. Europeans like gamers everywhere want the better product. Microsoft just needs to ensure they have a far better product.

The best way for them to do that in Europe is to cater to the markets wants and desires, and whom better to see to that then the local developers. They should be able to placate their fellow Europeans, and if not well the game industry in Europe is going to be in dire straights. Seems like a good strategy to me, but I am wondering is he talking of future plans, or plans that have been in motion for some time. I think I have seen perhaps a dozen decent looking games coming out of European developers that have yet to find themselves a publisher, and it would be good to see Microsoft taking up that slack since the large third party developers in Europe do not seem to be doing that.

^ agreed with a little mod.... european are stupid enough to be loyal to a brand name more than a product.... but they are sneaky enough to let you down first thing if they find something better....

@godot well simple I still don't believe that PS3 can end up second this generation.... and if they do it will be only because of a brand name.... in other words even if they do end up 2nd, they still will have lost against MS by diminishing a little bit more there brand name power.....

I dont know Microsoft that is sony territory. Europe loves the Ps3 i dont see Microsoft making a dent in that territory.

It will be tough. PS3 is almost completly caught up, selling more per week and the MS can't drop the 360 price any lower. Also GT5 is yet to be released...

MS has a hard road ahead if they're really serious about improving sales in Europe.  On the other hand, "it isn't over 'til it's over".

The PS3 is ahead in Europe though....

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

And the 360 used to be ahead.  The question for MS is, can they boost sales past PS3 sales.  It's gonna be tough, but they're really cash rich and have shown a tendency to take big losses just to win in a market.  Time will tell.

...

Europeans are loyal to "sony" because sony is a synonym for "quality". All of their products are considered quality products, and also the reason why they sell (despite their - mostly - high price).

And EVERYONE should go for the better deal if there is one, it would be complete stupidity to stick with something inferior for no reason.

Europeans stick with sony, because it's quality. 'Nuff said.
