The Boss should be there, and be number 1.

can you give me one conceivable reason how sonic possibly inspires?
he has no story and no motivation. all he does is jump around collecting rings. if you think sonic is inspiring, you simply don't know what the word means. what has he done that merits inspiration? nothing.

lots of starcraft characters were really inspiring.. but i gotta choose from as many franchises as possible. the exception is metal gear, where one place in a top 10 just isn't enough :P
Where's everybody's favorite crowbar wielding mute, Gordon Freeman?
He escapes the crumbling Black Mesa Research Lab and gets put into a stasis for 15-20 years. He has to somehow liberate earth from the aliens that are decimating it with things like supressing the birth rate, resource draining, and total brutality. He's the 'One Free Man' lol.
Oh, and don't forget the crowbar or running back into a crumbling citadel that's about to explode to fix it's cooling systems to buy some time to escape.

Tassadar (StarCraft) - "I shall steer the Ganthritor into the heart of the Overmind..." were among the last words of this proud Protoss warrior who was not afraid to break every law in order to save his people, even accepting trial and persecution just like Socrates did in antiquity, even in the face of injustice. In his final act of bravery, he smashed his ship into the ancient evil tormenting his race, thereby ending its tyranny and saving the existence of his people, at the cost of his own life given willingly without a hint of hesitation. "En Taro Tassadar", later says Artanis and the rest of his people in homage.

Aldaris is way more kick-ass. Tassadar was the standard, good fella in the hero suit.
