Yeah, this game looks really good to me. Definitely a game I'd download if I had a PS3!

Impressive ! One of VG chartz members is also one of the top 50 players in SS HD (position nr 37 right now). More than 220 000 000 ! ! - Windbane. Congratulation and respect... I've scored 6 000 000 so far

Yeah. Respect Windbane. I wish I had more time to play this game more often than I do.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
This is the only game I've been playing on the PS3 since last week. It is quite fun and addicting. My best score is something like 25mil thus far. Only have gotten to the 3rd planet and have started playing planet mode more than arcade lately. Coming across big score boosters I didn't notice playing arcade mode the first few times through so I'll probably go back to arcade mode after I get better at each individual planet.

I have a strategy I haven't tested quite yet. Basically avoid grabbing point items until I have a large multiplier. Not sure how easy it will be to accomplish but I assume that's how a lot of people have been playing.

I usually start the first level with the weapon that is supposed to be used for the second level (gold melter) and boost that because the first level is easy enough to handle without boosting the weapon that is good against rocks.
In the second level I start building the ice melter while using the gold melter and so on.

I pretty much stick to using the gold melter the entire time. I find the trail to be much easy to shoot things w/o worrying about aiming so much. I might try that though.

If you guys like this game, you should try Nucleus. It is a really quirky title that has quite a difficulty curve. I haven't played enough of it to say whether or not it is better than Super Stardust HD, but it is a good game nonetheless.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Wow, I must have missed this thread before. Thanks kber81 =) I was 12th at one point but it's getting fierce. Almost 50,000 people have the game. I wonder how that compared to Geometry Wars on the 360.
I've been slowly learning some of the details of the game since the game manual doesn't help much.
ceres: let me know how that works out. I think it would definitely work early on in a level but those point things do go away after awhile if you don't get them in time.
I've also wanted to try just getting the gold melter the first level but I think I've found I get more weapon upgrades if I stick to the Rock Crusher. Usually I can almost max the Rock Crusher on level 1, then almost max Gold Melter on level 2, then get a good enough Ice Melter on level 3. Near-maxed Rock Crusher is decent in the beginning of level 3, too, if you have to use it.
I don't think it really matters what weapon strategy you use on the first play through, but when you beat all 5 levels once everything starts moving faster and it's harder to get weapon upgrades. I still can't tell for sure, but I'm pretty sure the chances of getting 1up/shield/weapons are dependant on how quickly you destroy the astroids. There's too much of a random factor to tell for sure, though. I do seem to do better if I get Rock Crusher up to at least 69% (before it shoots slower with 4 shots instead of 3) before I start upgrading Gold Melter for the 2nd level. I try to get Ice Crusher up as soon as Gold Melter is up to around 69% as well because I find that weapon to be the easiest to use, but I find level 3 to be easier with Ice Melter. I want to try it more with Gold Melter, though, but I think it's easier to use the 3 weapons against the stuff they are good against. You get fewer small shards that way I think, and it lets you finish each phase faster which gives you more points (but I'm usually just focused on staying alive, which is hard enough).
Anyway, that was kinda long, sorry...
I agree with ckmlb that the bosses are kind of underwhelming, but I welcome the break, heh. I do die against level 3's double saucers (their real names are in the game stats but I forget) more often than I should because I get impatient. Once you get all the patterns down there's nothing in the game that's particularly hard, but it definitely makes you concentrate the whole time.
akuma587, I've heard Nucleus isn't nearly as good but then I'm pretty biased for Stardust =) It did get a 59% on metacritics so far, compared to 83% of Stardust. Just sayin...
