Forums - Sony - Super Stardust HD Apreciation Thread

Alright I know there aren't many people with PS3s here, but if you have one go download this game.

8 dollars for an amazing looking old school space shoot 'em up. It's seriously PSN's answer to Geometry Wars.

I'm playing it right now and I am simply blown away by how fun, addictive and beautiful this game is. I really wish I had a big screen HD TV for this :(

If you like old school space shooters this is definitely a must purchase on your PS3.

Anyone else playing this or interested in it?

Some screenshots that simply don't do it justice in their small size:

The game's awesome! Also finally a Playstation Network game truly tapping into the power of the SPEs! In the past they also did a great job in tapping into the power of the Amiga custom chips!

Housemarque is a fusion of Amiga developing game companies Terramarque and Bloodhouse! 8-)

Previous Amiga 500 beat-em up game, Terramarque:

Super stardust HD is easially the best DLC game I have played yet this gen....

Playstation Network - Abrader

That looks pretty damn spiffy.  I love new old school shooters.  :)

I hope there are more "answers" to Geometry Wars, because honestly, I was kind of underwhelmed by GW.  I mean, for $2.50, I can't really complain, but... well... yes, I can complain.  :P  They should've spent, oh, I dunno, a handful more hours thinking of ways to extend the gameplay to give it replay value beyond getting a higher score in the only game mode it has.  The game's subtitle is "Retro Evolved," but I think it fails to live up to that.  It isn't evolved, it's just retro.

I bought this game last night and I think it is worth the $8. It was pretty hard at first but I'm getting better. It's visually stunning...a true work of art. The motions of the game are so fluent. I almost get caught up watching it sometimes and forgetting to play it...lol.

is it really worth buying??? i will probably check it out since most of you say good things about it...

I'd say yes. The more I play, the more I'm liking it. For $8 I don't think you can go wrong.

Actually Super Stardust is NOT the original. The Original was called StarDust. And this game is worth about 20$ in my book. I mean 8$... that's a steal. The game is amazing. The trance music just makes me... Idunno? Wanna protect the world or something... XD

This is Stardust for the Amiga 500 (hardware released in 1987, basically a smaller homecomputer version of the Amige 1000 from 1985, but with more onboard memory and newer system OS):

Super Stardust is the Amiga 1200 / CD32 version which appeared a year later: An unupgraded A1200 and CD32 has similar specs, compared to unupgraded Amiga 500s these Amigas had more onboard memory, 16.7 Million color pallete (A500 had 4096) and a newer full 32bit CPU at twice the clockspeed @ 14 Mhz).
