Can you explain this cashback program and how it works?

Whats in it for Microsoft?

Basically they are just bribing you to use their search engine. You buy something by clicking on one of their links and 60 days later they mail you a check with your cashback.

Can you do it for anything?

That must cost them a S*&TLOAD!!!!

Anything from cashback vendors pretty much. And it's worked with other coupons too. So I've been able to combine discounts at certain stores.

I don't know how much it costs them, but I have nothing to lose by using it.

The price drop is too aggresive , a cheaper XBOX may actualy compliment the PS3 making it look more the preimum option.

I hear this argument all the time about Wii vs 360, Wii vs PS3 or Xbox 360 vs PS3 (even PS3 vs PS3 when they did their massive cuts).  I have never seen one bit of evidence that suggests this factor is a major force in the market.

I'm not sure how this would be the beginning of the $199 price drop scenario. Isn't that a completely separate approach based on reduced cost via a new motherboard, chipset, etc.? This looks more like a closeout sale sponsored entirely by the merchant.

They just increased the cashback to 10%, so now the price after cashback is $206.97.

Zappos increased their cashback too, so you can get a 360 premium for $245.99 after cashback. Zappos is a really reliable company too, although I'm not sure why they are selling video games since they normally sell shoes. Good deal for shoes too with a 18% cashback.
