Forums - Microsoft - Taking Xbox 360 to Japan

It should work. Most power supplies these days are made for 100-240 volts. The only thing you need to worry about is if your in an area with dirty voltage, voltage that isn't regulated properly.

I just got back from the Philippines 2 months ago. They have a lot of black outs. This can be troublesome, because the voltage spikes that occur in these type of situations. Even though their electronics are rated for the voltage, most of them still use some kind of filter that plugs into the wall and then they plug the electronics into the filter. Most of the time for the expensive electronics only though (tv, video game consoles).

Hey you are going to be in Kumamoto? I live about 2 hours South of there in Kagoshima.

Nice to see some VGChartz members in Japan.

Anyways, you have a few choices. Change the part of the cord with the three plugs to a 2 plug style connector. You know like the cord for a standard desktop computer. You can get this at any computer store. They also make power strips that are the US style with 3 plugs. You could get that if you want to ground it as well. The end of the power strip has a little green wire that you screw to one of the screws on your outlet. I think changing the cord is the cheapest and easiest way.

I have a Japanese 360, so I don't have this problem. Also, if you are worried about buying games. play-asia.com is a good place to purchase US games that will work on your system. They have free shipping to Japan as well.

What are you planning on doing in Japan?

or if you want to be cheap, jut break off the ground pole. ^_^

the Japanese outlets do not have the 3rd pin (the ground plug), so you may need an adapter for it (3 pin -> 2 pin adapter).

Hmm... My 360's power cord doesn't have a 3rd pin... It only has 2... Maybe, FinalEvangeliion you just buy a new plug... What are they, about $20?

Well I'm not exactly sure about the plug on US 360's since I don't have one, hehe. I was just kind of assuming it would have the ground plug on it.

Just curious, but where will you be living in Japan?

I'll be in Kumamoto. I think it should work ok, so I'll just go ahead and take it.

Thanks guys for the info.

Kumamoto is on Kyushu island? I've never been down there. I live on the main island in Nagoya (Aichi prefecture).

Enjoy your time in Japan :)

I will be studying at Kumamoto Gakuen University.  But, I'll probably just get a power strip for other devices and just wire the ground to the screw like you said.  I have visited Kyushuu a few years ago, and it's a nice area of the country.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I think only the older ones have a 3rd pin. I saw someone else's that was about a year and 1/2 old, and it had 3 pins, but mine has 2 (Mine was a Premium advertising Halo 3). We both live in the US too.
