Ok Ghast, Ill help you out a bit with some definitions
1280 by 720 is refered to as 720 (presumably 720p)
1280 by 576 is refered to as 576 (presumably 576i)
Already we've spotted a problem in your post. If it's running in 576i, it's not running in 1080p

1365 by 960 would be refered to as 960 p/i Why indeed would the makers of the game choose to 'upscale' a game that natively runs in 960 to 720.
Do you see that first part of the word upscaling. 'Up' implies an increase of some description. To find the increase we subtract one number from another.
720 - 960 = -240
