Forums - Gaming - I got a Playstation Two: reccommendations appreciated!

Wow people, that's a LOT of reccommendations. I'm never gonna be able to shell out the cash for all that, but I'll see what I can make of it. Thanks a lot!
O by the way, I know Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games on PS2: the Wii version is my favorite single player game ever. That's why I didn't mention it in my list.

Now that I'm at it, I'll post a few first impressions of the games I got this far.
-GTA San Andreas: I know I'm supposed to like this stuff, but from what I've seen so far (not too much), this game just sucks. I've never liked the GTA series that much, but I was convinced that playing them myself would alter my opinion. It didn't really. The game looks crap even for a PS2 game, but what irritates me most is the 'dialogue'. I don't want to discriminate, but I bought this game as entertainment, not as a 'how to talk like a real nigga' course. It's not cool or anything, just f*cking annoying. This game is too black for a white kid like me ;).

-Prince of Persia Sands of Time: The game is decent so far, but not great. Might change later on though. The acrobatics are very cool, but it all feels a little dusty (might have to do with the sandy setting though ). There is a striking gap between the larger cutscenes and the in-game images: the cutscenes are stunningly beautiful, while the game itself looks pretty crappy.

-Viewtiful Joe 2: I like this game. A lot. The visual style, over-the-top presentation and ever-so-cool VFX powers make simple 2D fighting and puzzles a joy to play. And who doesn't like the obvious movie references, as well as sergeant Big Joe from the 'fifth Panzer division, first reconnaissance unit, second platoon!!!' (if I remember well).

-Final Fantasy XII: Now we're talking. This game is pure damn gold. The intro cutscene was probably the best I've ever seen from an artistic/cinematic viewpoint, and even more than PoP, the quality of the large cutscenes is unbelievable coming from such a graphically 'weak' console: I can't remember anything like it on the GameCube, and even on the Wii I have to dig deep. Funny that the game itself, although very nice, has a lot lower graphic quality. I am totally into the deep story and the way it's told (the start of the game with Reks and Basch is one of the best kick-offs I have ever seen) and although the gameplay and combat were very strange to start with, I'm now getting the hang of it and starting to love it. I'm still only two hours in, but my gut feeling says this is material for my top ten of best games, and gonna place high. I have always wanted to play a Final Fantasy just because it's so well known, but I couldn't have dreamt for it to be so good.

From your list I recommend:
Shadow of the Colossus
Metal Gear Solid 2
ICO
Devil May Cry 3
God of War I/II
Final Fantasy X
Disgaea

An you might want to add some JRPGs:
Persona 3 FES
Suikoden III/V
Star Ocean III
Xenosaga I/II/III
Rogue Galaxy
Radiata Stories

^ The PS2 is well-stocked in the RPG-field, isn't it? That's a very good thing: although I'm still an RPG n00b, the ones I did play (Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy XII and to a lesser extent Paper Mario) left a deep impression, and I love games with deep storylines. I'll give those games a try. I almost bought a limited edition version of Xenosaga II when I was in france, but didn't know wether it was a good game. Turns out it was . Pity.

You gotta try burnout 3: I didn't enjoy racing games until I played it. It actually sold me the whole genre.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Xenosaga II is a good game (though it's by far the worst of the three), but you did well in not buying it, there's no way you can play II without having played the first before, is a very story-heavy game and it explains nothing of what happened in the first game.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
