Forums - Microsoft - Forza 2 errors

Superchunk, I hate to say it, but between me owning a day one (made in early Oct. 2005) X360, and having 1000+ hours on Oblivion alone, I figured it might RRoD on me (check my gamercard out and see what all I've done, just to understand how often my brother, myself, and friends play on my 360). I've had Playstations and N64s die on me, so it does happen where I live. Heck I pack my 360 up nearly every week and take it somewhere. The wires on the powersupply are frayed and hanging on by a thread because of how many times I've packed/unpacked my 360 for transport.

I really don't think we should cry conspiracy so quickly against MS. I remember in the earlier days of the MS forums, there was a 1000+ thread post about the RRoD, and technical support. They've now streamlined the process and just stickied a be-all-end-all post about the RRoD on their forums.

Could I be wrong? Sure, but I think that deleting it because of the stated reasons, just proves something's wrong, and right now, thats the last thing MS needs.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Just came across this forum thread - seems that a lot of people are having Forza 2 bricking their 360 completely:

(the chances of me now buying a 360 are dropping very rapidly... I can't believe MS hasn't fixed these issues yet :P).

-Somebody talked about Oblivion above,

The Oblivion issues in Shivering Isles had a big game breaking bug at a specific time of total play with a character, the PC version had it too but I think there was a work around for it (I haven't invested in Knights of the Nine or the Shivering Isles on my PC yet and I don't know if I will, I'm bored of Oblivion). I don't recall other bad issues with Oblivion on the 360 other than maybe save files being corrupt after an patch update.

I was thinking on getting a 360 but now I'm not quite sure... I better upgrade my PC :P

Is this game too much for the 360 or something? I mean, freezes are... well... passable, but Hardware failures like the one commented on the 2nd post is serious stuff

LOL at the Wiki's page on Forza 2

''It has been widely reported that Forza Motorsport 2 has caused hardware failure's inside hundreds of Xbox 360 console's. It has been reported that in response Microsoft has removed the complaints from the Forza 2 forum website. However, this same complaint is made for almost every Xbox 360 game, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.''

Hi All,

I've recently read some messages about the Forza 2 game disc causing the XBox to freeze / hang, and those messages keep piling up.
Can anybody tell me honoustly whether this only happens to old XBoxes (old laser element), or to new Xboxes as well ?

And are there any other games besides  Forza 2 that causes the same symptoms ?

 I'm curious ...

Forza will hang my 11/06-manufactured Xbox every once in awhile during multiplayer. It's happened three times in about 40 hours of gameplay online. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying.

It always happens during the track loading screen, never anywhere else. I also know a few other people who have had the same problem.

Just got an Xbox 360 yesterday and love it but to be honest - reading forums on here i'm a little concerned.  Seems a lot of people are having hardware issue so forgive me for sounding thick but is there any nown issues or games - no matter how old these are that I should be concerned about.

Regarding this 3 red Light Ring of Death, is this an overheating issue or what?  got mine stored on a wood floor with plenty of ventilation space and well out the way of the Wii etc but is that enough (wanted to try to stream music to it last night when playing PGR3 but this red light thing stopped me from trying).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

Gawalls: Yes it is a heat problem, keep the box well ventilated. Another thing one might want to do is to "lean" the power adapter so it has air on all six sides.

Of course you can stream music :)

First off you need to take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt.  I've played Forza 2 over 70 hours now and have not had a single issue with the game at all.  As for the 360 you should always have the 360 in the horizontal position.  Having it vertical blocks one of the fans and that's the last thing you want to do.  Try to place the 360 in an open area that's well ventilated and make sure there isn't too much dust around the system.  I've had my system since Jan '06 and it did fail last March but it's been fine ever since.  There are some tell tale signs that your system is having trouble: often freezes up in the same game, response time gets really slow, get some graphical glitches.  If this happens you are better off letting the system take a break.  Play some Arcade games or something but stop playing disk games.  Odds are the newer 360 will last longer but don't be surprised if the unit fails cause it's obvious MS has not figured out what's wrong yet.

Ok, on behalf of MS (I'm not really a Microsoft rep), I want to admit that the 360 is more prone to failure than it should be. I've admitted it for everyone so the whole internet can move on. I'm tired of hearing about it.

That said, buy a new one, buy the extended warranty, and play some damn good games.

Forza isnt' bricking systems any more than any other game. The 360 has a higher than normal failure rate and if a box is going to fail, it is going to fail more often on the games people are playing *right now* simply because that is the CD that happened to be in the system when it went. The software isn't doing it -- it's just timing. When Halo 3 comes out, it will "brick" systems because system failures will be on the game most being played. Think about it. Use your brain. Move on.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Haven't had any freezes or crashes with it but I have had a problem where it is unable to read textures in from the disc and I just get garbled 'noise' where the texture should be.

You will all be thinking right now that I don't look after my discs but what you should realise is that this disc has only ever left the 360 to be cleaned (because of this problem) since I got it.

It's weird because my 360 isn't scratching the disc (I was worried at first that this might be what was happening) - just smudging it a little.

Fantastic game though.
