Forums - Sony - what's up with the new 2.42 update?

for the love of, this is driving me nuts. I still can't update. My internet works fine, I'm connected, ect ect, I've restarted my system and many other things but still every time I try It can't get above 15% before it gets an error.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Skip's got the best idea.

It is true there have been a rash of updates lately, but this is the exception rather than the norm. It was only this bad during the beginning of the console's life cycle, and I expect it to slow down now that they have added in-game XMB.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

@vagabond

I had the same trouble the first 2 times I tried to system update (I'd hit 15% and then connection to server would be gone).  Luckily the third time was the charm and I was able to finish downloading it today.

^This.  I'm surprised no one mentioned it sooner than skip did.

I downloaded yesterday and it worked fine for me.

Had to update when I first got it, on June 13, right out of the box.

Had to update the next week, when I went to the PS Store. I still don't know why.

Maybe it's my connection, but these updates take FOREVER. It's a little frustrating. I had assumed that every time new content was available at the PS Store, I had to sit through an update. One week, I didn't though. Hopefully, downloading while the console is off will become an option soon.

The PS store used to be done through the web browser and it was a rather 'meh' experience to look though it. It was slow, clunky, unappealing, and not very useful. You have to update before you could use the PS store because they finally took down the peice of crap browser store and replaced it with a much better software based PS store.

It could be your connection or that lots of people are downloading the updates. I usually get through them in a timely fashion.

This was actually the smoothest update I've ever had to do on my PS3. Not only did it download faster than any previous update, it installed much faster as well.

I dunno what to tell you.

It's odd because I've never had a problem with an update before, I guess I must be one of the lucky few. I noticed this one was pretty quick for an update as well, but that was probably because it was smaller than the previous two.
