Forums - Gaming - Why is the Soul Calibur IV online community so bad at the game?

The game just came out. A lot of people are online with the game now just trying it out, and remember Star Wars characters probably helped bring in new fans to the series. Give the game two months and the button mashers will be weeded out and the dedicated Soul Calibur players will be left online. Then you'll have your challenge.

I can't speak for the PSN players, but the Live players are up to par. I've been playing Soul Calibur for years (I'm not exceptional, but definitely can beat any button mashers) and I'm only doing so-so in my ranked matches. Yesterday i was fighting an Afro Samurai version of Mitsurugi and I broke all of his armor till he was only in underwear, but still the guy I was playing against was good enough to come back and end up beating me.

More or less. I just started on Soulcal and so far I have 5 wins 2 loss. There are a lot of newbs like me, for sure, but they have no idea how to get good combos. Just mash buttons.

I tend to see SC as about doing the right things at the right time than just amassing combos. I think anyone would find it difficult to even pull of a 5-hit combo in the game because it is possible to turn continuously in the air  and on the ground unlike say...tekken.

You're probably right. I ran into too many The Apprientices and Darth Vaders and the y all sucked lol. I've never tried Darth myself. I only use Mitsurugi and Sophitia

I remember my friend saying that Brawl sucked because it was melee 1.5... I even remember the internet forum blokes trying to forge a meme out of it.

I bought the game on Monday, got to play it yesterday - I spent about 2 hours wondering how to put pants my my created character that didn't make her look like a ho**er and didn't just garb her in armor.

This is actually my first bought Soul Calibur I did play 3 and 2 extensively though.

Ironiclly I'm quite pleased that the game physics and the formula is in tact and remains for the greater part unchanged. It made the learning and remembering process much simpler for moves, now it's a matter of pulling them off in reaction.

I actually find this game fighting wise much more appealing than brawl - however there are aspects like fighting on the edge (in the air) in melee that I can't do in brawl anymore (tense fighting) however I was hoping SCIV would have edge grabing or something. Knock offs are annoying with the people I play with.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

ctually, I think SC is one of the easier fighters. Its the easiest one I know of. I can't think of any other fighter where you can win by just tapping square and triangle.

I actually almost got bested by a noob who was doing just that because he was way faster than me and I rarely block in SC. It was pretty hard to GI as well due to the slight lag but it seems like the easiest way to victory is full unending assault and thats my specialty. I find it hard to defend against people I haven't figured out.

Gee, I think I found your problem and bolded it for you.  Don't complain about a game being easy because noobs can beat you if you don't bother to use the most basic of gameplay elements like 'block'.

Now, Soul Calibur is more accessible than a lot of games, which I think is great, but a skilled player who uses the full spectrum of abilities available to them (including block) can beat a button mashing newb any day.

i can't wait to get this game!!

i'll get it on 2-3 days (Ps3 v.)

is it good?

I think its most likely the controller. This game requires you to push two buttons at one time to do some moves. I have all the versions for every system and the only one that I could play decently was the first one on Dreamcast. The controller was big enough to put on your lap and press any combination of buttons. The d-pad was easy to use also.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

I was pretty good at Soul Calibur 2 and 3, but It took me a while to transition over to 3 because characters had new moves and some had been removed or required a different button combination than before. Maybe its the same scenario here or maybe they are really terrible.

If everyone you play stinks wouldn't it be a good thing? Easy wins of course...

Unless I guess, you want a challenge...
