Actually it's mostly casuals that still buy the PS2. They don't care about graphics a lot, and the PS2 is cheap ($129) and has loads of games.

PS3 needs to be cheaper and have more games like LBP

word on the street is they'll release it with the Ghostbusters bundle.

The strategy is quite sound. As long as the PS3 is too expensive for the "casuals" the PS2 is marketed in this area. When the PS3 price drops it takes over. Now lets see if they pull it off. If you include the PS2 Sony home consoles are not THAT far behind the Wii.

The question is if they manage to get PS2 users to adopt the PS3.

even more reason why B/C would go a long way towards helping Sony if that time ever comes

I think with price drops and more casual games may do it, or they can go for the casual crowd like nintendo...

Just wait. I think when all the PS2 HW action is dead or slow, we will see a firmware update that gives us BC. Otherwise, why else would they take it away for so long?

It was just a ploy to get people to keep buying PS2's as thats good Profit for SONY. Time will tell.
