As the dust settles from E3, it's time to get back into the daily grind of the console wars. One man, Microsoft's Don Mattrick, is taking a stand. He claims that the Xbox 360 will see higher software sales over the PS3 for the rest of both console's lifecycles.

Them's fightin' words.

Mattrick is apparently annoyed at all the questions about the console war. "I did the math, I did the math a different way, I did the math... there was no equation that I came to where I got a different answer, and I went, 'You know what? This is getting boring,'" said Mattrick. "Like, instead of everyone standing on the sidelines trying to hedge, I'm just going to say it."

And say it he did.

He also alluded to Sony and Nintendo taking a "vacation" in terms of preparing for their E3 press conferences. "I think our team showed up for work every day, had more than 12 months of productivity, and it kind of feels like the competition took an extended holiday and didn't get as much done as a result," he said.

Pair this up with Sony's Kaz Hirai saying he'd rather take a bullet to the dome over having a game like Gears of War 2 on the PlayStation 3 and you've got the makings of a brawl. Maybe we'll see it unfold at Leipzig while Reggie Fils-Aime sits off the side and counts his money.

I thinks this won't happen, but what do you think?

Maybe he means in the Americas. You know, the only place Microsoft has any hold in.

Is he saying this because he knows the PS3 will sell more hardware eventually, and hes trying to deflect attention away from that?

I think so

i think at most that the 360 will sell more software for three years, but thats being generous. with many going multiplatform sony will soon give ms a run for its money in software as well.

Ummm. Europe/Others software for 360 is undertracked like hell. 360 is still winning there. I thought you would know that.

lol i like the fact that he says they didn't prepare for e3 properly and took "extended vecations" while most people agree that microsofts conference were the poorest. (Maybe nintendo i dunno, but it certainly wasnt the best)

Actually, most journalists gave the nod to the 360.

The way that statement was worded suggests that they believe one day (years and years away) they won't beat the ps3 on software. But considering the article says that they think they will beat the ps3 on software for the rest of the lifecycle, I diagnose an inaccurate , or ever so slightly misleading title? Of course I am taking this way out of context and anyone who reads this should completely disregard what i'm saying. Seriously

The 360 has the most condensed demographic of hardcore gamers, meaning it will sell the most games per console of the three.

 Im pretty certain he was being sarcastic.
