Forums - Sony - PS3 only cost 344$ US in Hong Kong?

I saw this on wikipedia and I was wondering if anyone can confirm this.

Most things are very cheap in Hong Kong, as they're very close to most Chinese export factories and taxes are almost (or totally) non-existent there. There are people who go to Hong Kong just for shopping.

When I went there last year I got some pretty cheap stuff.

Ha ha I'm about to go to Hong Kong and do some shopping there.

The only thing you have to take care with is customs (on your way back, at the arrival airport in your country). There are certain precautions you can take to minimize the risk though ;)

How did you get around this problem?

I don't know how it works in USA, but (in my experience) in Europe you're rarely stopped by customs officers, unless you are bringing loads of luggage or big boxed articles outside suitcases. I was never inspected.

At that specific time last year, I transferred in UK before travelling to my country. In that situation, I didn't pass through customs at the first airport, and when I arrived to the second airport I was coming from an EU airport in which case you never pass through customs (AFAIK).

Another thing you could do is to carry the purchased articles outside their boxes (but still in suitcases), which makes it easier to convince them you're just taking stuff back and forth. They might ask you for receipts though...

PS: I don't think the above advice could ever get you into trouble, but the usual disclaimer applies. I'm not a lawyer or anything of the sort.

Just open your PS3 box and don't leave the invoice in it and you will have no problem I think.

Post back any boxes, tags, instruction manuals etc and just carry the actual item so it looks like you've owned it for a while. If you're buying small things it may be worth posting them back too just to avoid any potential hassle.

If you post stuff, doesn't that make it very likely customs will charge you for it? They usually inspect incoming mail from abroad. It's not an issue if you're just posting manuals/boxes though.
