Forums - Gaming - FFIV on DS is going to be 4 times the length of the original!

http://www.exophase.com/ds/final-fantasy-iv-ds-remake-not-just-pretty-graphics-1044.htm

If you thought Final Fantasy IV DS was just going be another shoddy remake with pretty graphics, you're wrong. In a recent interview with Famitsu, Square-Enix developer Takashi Tokita revealed that nearly 3/4 of Final Fantasy IV's original script ended up being cut from the original SNES release. Tokita states that some of this material will be reworked into the upcoming DS remake.

It always felt like the story in FFIV moved a little too quick for my tastes, so this comes as great news. Most importantly, it's great to know we aren't getting the same core game with extra dungeons tacked on this time around (glances at FF GBA titles).

I know the news story is almost 10 days old, but it went completely unnoticed by most major news sources and as an FF fanboy it's my duty to inform the masses! I loved FFIV, and this is HUGE news. We are going to see an already great game remade to it's intended glory with great graphics and cutscenes.

IGN also has an article about it:

I had originally planned on skipping this but now I can't miss it.

Wikipedia also had something to say about it

According to executive producer Takashi Tokita, the scenario writer and lead game designer of the original release, 3/4 of the original script had been left out from Super Famicom original release, but this lost material will be reworked into the remake, while some new events will also be added. The player will have the possibility to use the Nintendo DS stylus to move around similarly to the Final Fantasy III remake, while some minigames will require this usage of the stylus. Additionally, the developers are currently working on a feature which should add replayability to the game, although it will not necessarily be a New Game Plus feature.

In June 2007, Square Enix will hold a casting for a vocalist to sing a version of Final Fantasy IV's "Theme of Love" rearranged by Nobuo Uematsu.

Great:

Final Fantasy 4, now with new and improved formula

Effects guaranteed to last 4x longer!

Ouch, now I wish I owned a DS. I never was one for handhelds though, Nintendo or Sony. Too much game backlog as it is anyways...I guess I will just pout and be jealous, because this is seriously one of my favorite games in the history of gaming.

Here is to hoping that there are some good DS emulators out there.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. there are many emulators for DS already but most new games don't work right away until they update the emulator.

however, the experience will never be the same. you should definitely get a DS :)

on topic. was also going to skip it, but guess not, anymore.

A huge title becomes even bigger. SE is the gaming equivalent to penis growth pils..only they do deliver!

Huh. Well, am I going to feel stupid for buying FFIV advance? Well, I did that over a year ago, so I won't think twice about buying FFIV DS when it comes out. Damnit.

ive heard of ds games being available for download, anybody no anything more on the subject than i do?

Jstam - Yep, people pirate stuff. Yep, it's illegal. Yep, if you don't mind that, it won't take you more than 10 seconds of a google search to find somewhere to get them. And probably an emulator.
