I think its mainly UE3 games that have that shiny plastic look and I agree its weird looking.

 None of those games are HD. They are only 720p. :)

Many games this gen can look no better than well made plastic toys in a well made plastic world. Its just where the graphics are at. Phenominally graphical games such as MGS4 though have surpassed this. I still don't like photo realistic games, as they still don't look realistic at all- heck even the CGI MAG trailer looked fake. Games look better when they have graphical styles lik tales of vesperia or Banjo KAzooie Nuts and bolts or LBP.

I agree with Bioshock, but I didn't notice the "plastic" look in GeoW or Mass Effect. Actually, that's the first thing I thought when I played Bioshock.

Yea I always figured a game with a certain artistic style would always look better than a game that tried to be realistic looking or have everything bump mapped. I just can't see video games ever being ultra real just because its a 2d plane trying to convey a 3d world. I always feel something will feel out of place, and that makes the whole thing look awkward. I much prefer games with an artistic style that tries to look good within the scope of whatever style it chose.

The 2 best looking console games Gears 2 and FarCry 2 seem to be non shiny. Guess they toned it down now.

 Sorry I completely disagree with you. Gears 2 has far more detailed environments and from E3 playthroughs loads more enemies onscreen to. E3 it was easily clear which looked better. That demo in M$ press conference was jaw dropping. Even I didnt expect that much of a jump from Gears 1.

WHAT WHAT WHAT! You think that Gears 2 looks better then killzone 2? gears 2 just looks like gears one with an ambient oclision light added. One char in killzone 2 has more pollies and TRIs then an entire level in killzone 1.
