Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft should just drop Xbox 360 to $199 and soar past PS3 and end it!

lol. EPIC FAIL OF A THREAD. $199 x360 would generate huge losses for MS. MS shareholders would be pissed if this happened soon.

Around the Network

I would break my 360 if this happens now.

Well when a certain thread about all consoles being the same priced emerged xbots a the casulites were chatting crap bout this and that would have to be taken out of the ps3 for it to be tht price so let me start on my own little masquerade

a 200 360

no HDD

Lower end Wii likes graphics.

It would have to lose the processor because that would be expensive for a console that cheap.

might aswell remove any HD ports being as it wont have hd graphics so bye bye HDMI port.

Poorer ethernet ports.

Na it wouldnt be worth buying anymore might aswell get the Wii

They should just eat the cost and make them irrelevant. Now they got GTA 4, FF XIII, and the Halo series. 3 out of the top 5 biggest franchisis in gaming history! DAmN! Thats enoungh to end it at the right price point! $199 vs $399. Its clear who would win.

didnt bother to read the entire thread, just this was enough for me to go.."WTF?"

sure, this would end the hd console war. it will also end Microsoft's game division. please use your brain next time.

They are already loosing over a hundred dollars a console, at least last someone was able to add it up. If they cut it another 100 dollars, they would be loosing 200 dollars a console. They could literally put themselves out of business if they sell well at that price point. First they need to drop the price of making the thing, then they can drop the price on the unit at the stores.

And by "they" I mean Microsofts Entertainment Division. The investors on the Board dont give two shits about you or Microsoft Fanboys or games. They care about money, and if the 360 started to tank the MS Entertainment division they would pull the plug so quick on the console it would make your head spin.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

I've always wondered just how big a loss MS or Sony could take on their hardware before somebody got charged with product dumping.

I have also wondered that. For example, could Nintendo sue them for unfair competition? I know they don't care in this gen, but maybe they could have in some previous generations.

Price is a weapon that Microsoft could have used many times by now to increase their marketshare and prevent the other consoles from passing the XBox 360; for example, had they dropped the XBox 360 to $299 before the PS3 and Wii launched they would have (potentially) capatalized on a lot of Playstation fans who were upset with the $599 price of the PS3, and also captured some potential Wii owners who couldn't find a system.

The fact that they haven't reduced the price (that much) implies that either they can't afford to reduce the price or they're not that interested in dropping the price. Personally, I suspect a combination of the two ... The RROD combined with (still) being unable to manufacture their CPU and GPU using a 55nm or 45nm process means that Microsoft may not be able to afford to sell the XBox 360 at a more reasonable price, and they may not want to be dramatically lower in price than the PS3 so that people do not make the assumption that it is technically inferior to the PS3 (an assumption many people made about the Gamecube compared to the PS2).

==> that I agree.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

If they cut the price to $199 they would lose billions and it wouldn't help them a lot. The EU price cut didn't give them a big long term boost.

the 199$ model is going to be discontinued, isnt it?
